I'm curious if anyone lifting out there had the feeling like shin splints but in there forearms. over the last week 1/2, I added 20lbs and then another 20lbs to the non-straight curl bar and 20lbs to the reverse non-straight curl bar. now my forearms when I put down the weights, they kill.

In B4 Martins know-it-all post.

Sounds like tendonitis, my man. I started getting tendonitis from rows and pull downs, started wearing wrist-wraps and all was better. I would recommend just going easier on the weight -- you can increase, but not so drastically. You (like me) are an old fart and heavy weight hurts. I have been lifting lighter lately with higher reps -- still a good workout, but not so hurty.

Oh, and start eating some meat products, hippy.

I've had the same issue when doing any bicep curling motion, especially with the ez-bar. Mine isn't as intense but probably will be if I keep it up.

I'm going to rape my back today on the air rower today. The only thing that will actually burn out my back is like 30 minutes of that or doing like 100 wide grip pull-ups, and well, I can't do that many.

Air rower? If you are getting raped by an air rower, you probably have it coming. Stick with real weights, please. For me.

Doing my regular workout with the Air Rower has my back feeling pretty dead. It may be gay but I approve.

Could be tendonitis but I would be more inclined to say it's an example of Wolff's Law ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolff's_law ) where a bone will react to whatever pressure you put on it. There are like micro-fractures in the bone and they heal back stronger than they were before. When I started kettlebell, my forearms hurt like hell for a few weeks but that went away with time.
If it really bothers you, take it easy and you should be okay.

And yeah, eat meat.

stretch. stretch everything slowly for more than 15 sec before and after you workout and whenever it hurts during the day. and yes REAL protein.

It's the muscle in your forearms growing away from the bone. It happens to a lot of people who work out. I had it for a while (a week or two) then it goes away.

Anyone vegetarian who works out? I'm making the switch come August and have to figure out what I'm going to do because about half of my protein intake is meat based. I already eat a lot of dairy products and peanut butter based things. I'll probably start drinking a protein shake every day as opposed to just after lifting. Any advice other than eat meat?

I eat a shit ton of tofu, beans, eggs, cheese, and almond/soy milk.

Also, I highly recommend that you take creatine. There are a lot of studies out there with veggies and creatine.

It depends on how you're taking it, I figure you don't "load" so it take about 2 weeks to be fully bloated from creatine when taking 5g a day. The first time I took it I could definitely tell a difference in the size of my biceps and I was able to get way more pumps and recover way faster.

around the time hive smasher was doing our first cd, dan and justin were both doing body building and living vegan.
i really don't consider it to be a lifestyle that you can really keep and live a good full life. you work your body to hard and tax it for nutrients that you don't actually put into your body. they were both pretty heavy into it though. i know justin will talk to you for hours about it if you talk to him. we don't give him the attention that he doesn't get from his wife.

Diet and Cardio.

Had to post in here eventually.

Grant's right on the mark with diet (as long as it's the right one) but exercise is NOT the way to lose weight.
A lot of people think that if you just use more calories than you consume, you will lose weight and yes, that's right... to a point. What's happening is your body thinking you are literally starving and you generally won't feel very good (your body will eat into your muscle, you'll feel hungry all the time, can cause depression, throw off hormone levels, etc). The way I lost 80lbs in 8 months is by training the body to burn fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. Once your body feels comfortable doing that, it dips into your fat stores for energy between meals (which shouldn't be that often anyway - intermittent fasting, look it up if you're interested). Blah blah blah not showing off like some might think, I'm just trying to help and share what I've learned.

I'm putting myself out there if anybody wants more information. PM me or something.

I took a week and a 1/2 off. Went back today. I tried to see if doing less weights did it. I also made sure to keep my wrists straight, but with the bar I've been using it locks your wrists straight. Anyhow, it's not wrists. It feels like the center of the bone in the front of my forearms are going to snap. When I put the weights down, it hurts for a second and then stops.

Anyhow, dips hurt a little, but only when coming off the bar. Also, when I throw a ball hard to the puppies, it also twinges in the middle of my arm.

I've been taking the Cell-tech stuff off and on like you original suggested. I found that there are 2 different cell-techs.
"regular"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011G0N72/ref=oss_product
and the "pro" stuff
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VLK5R4/ref=oss_product

the pro-series seemed to work faster.

Someone else must have suggested that -- I haven't taken powdered creatine in years. The liquid stuff is better because you only have to take a little bit rather than mixing it with water and drinking a big, gross concoction. The liquid also hits you faster and has better results and not as apt to give you the shits.

Take whey and creatine before you work out, and whey about 30 minutes after. The whey helps the muscle build up faster and stronger. Creatine is just good for giving you that extra boost to lift more than normally. Oh, and as said in this thread, eat some meat you tree huggers.

Aaron, I did more research on the forearm stuff. Most people are saying to stop bar curls and stick to pullups/dumbell curls (no preacher) while at the same time working to make your grip/forearm muscles stronger. Also, When lifting anything with the knuckle down grip, you should gradually ease your grip, not just pull away quickly because thats when the most irritation comes.
