ESPN's "Ultimate" NFL Rankings[views:3294][posts:14]_________________________________ [Jul 9,2010 11:19am - RustyPS ""] their Top 10: 10. Atlanta 9. New England 8. San Diego 7. Baltimore 6. Green Bay 5. New Orleans 4. New York Jets 3. Minnesota 2. Dallas 1. Indy an absolute fucking joke the SB champs are ranked behind both the team they beat in the SB and the team they beat in the NFC championship when none of the 3 teams added anything really ....and then there's the Jets, who are ESPN's darlings due to the fact that the brass in Bristol thinks they're good enough to overtake the hated Patriots, but who knows if Cromartie (AKA the village idiot) will be able to play in this defense, and if Shonn Greene can carry a full load (cause lord knows LT can't anymore), and if Ducasse can fill Faneca's shoes Dallas ranked #2? why? because they drafted Dez Bryant? San Diego ranked over the Pats, Falcons, and Bengals (who are ranked 13 behind Houston and Miami...even more lulz)....they lost their franchise RB (who was already washed up, and granted they drafted Mathews who I'm high on, but he's still an unproven rookie), their franchise NT, their best CB, Merriman is a shell of himself, and their franchise LT and #1 WR are still unsigned and holding out...how are they even in the top 15? The Worldwide Leader's NFL analysis is laughable at best |

_______________________________ [Jul 9,2010 1:59pm - xmikex ""] I don't buy into Power Rankings until at least week 8. But some things never ever change about pre-season power rankings. The defending super bowl champs rarely default to the top of the list unless they're juggernauts. Dallas always sneaks up about 10 spots no matter what they do because no matter what they do it involves spending a lot of money and making a lot of commotion about it. San Diego always sneaks up a few spots because they typically finish the regular season strong and everyone forgets about the first 9 weeks of the season where all they did was argue with eachother and blow winable games. One team is always the sports journalists "sexy" pick to storm into the top of the league with a collection of exciting young players that are "finally gonna come into their own" this year. A few years ago it was the 49ers. Now it's the Jets. For every improvement the Jets have made they've set themselves back. Dumping their 2 best running backs in favor of LaDanian Tomlinson, and a 3rd round pick? Give me a break. Kyle Wilson sucks. Cromartie sucks. Sanchez sucks. I'm actually surprised to see that the Patriots and the Eagles aren't the pick for the superbowl matchup for like the 5th year in a row. Atlanta looked like a smart pick for top 10 consideration after Matt Ryan's first season, but then their defense revealed itself as being awful, and the reality that they burnt out Michael Turner came to light. And what the hell have the Packers done to warrant top 10 consideration? 3 teams separate them from the Vikings, who they couldn't even pretend to compete with in either of their matchups last season. Fuckin Pre-season power rankings. How do they work? |

I agree with everything you say but this. Their defense suffered from what the Pats' D suffered from last year: inexperience. But if you look at their roster, they have a lot of talent there. The need to hope that William Moore, Peria Jerry, and Lawrence Sidbury take the next step, and adding Sean Weatherspoon and Dominique Franks in the draft should be a shot in the arm. Who knows what Dunta Robinson will bring considering his health problems? But if he can stay healthy, that will be huge for them. ...and with Michael Turner, he did suffer at the beginning of last season from being overused the season before, but he picked up steam in the middle, then had that high ankle sprain that kept him out the last few games of the season. I personally think he'll rebound. |
