Anyhow, there were many regions of North America where folk music used to be most often performed by a single melody instrument or voice, or maybe two melody instruments playing in unison. There are still commonly played tunes that don't fit into chords (without making them sound like jazz), which used to drive me nuts when I played bass at old-time jam sessions. I can't tell if you're trying to discuss this or just busting my balls though.[/QUOTE]
