this just reeks of ignorance and hypocrisy. You can't marry an idea to a kind of music. That's just as stupid as saying "hey, some punk and hardcore bands are white power, so we should lobby for the cancellation of punk and hardcore shows." I don't see any difference. Punishing the group for the "sins" of a few never makes sense; in fact, it's the same kind of mentality that leads to racism, sexism, homophobia and many other things the NEFAC stands against. It's ridiculous that someone claimed we have to "solve the problem of racism within our own community." Isn't that like a city council giving the shaft to black neighborhoods because they haven't "solved the problem of crime" within their own community? stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid stupid. I could go on about how ridiculous this is, but there's really nothing to add. And I agree with NEFAC on a lot of things, but many of their ilk are just hypocrites. This summer I lived in a house full of "anarchist" punks; they were nice people and all, but rarely did the dishes (great sense of community there), left huge messes in the backyard after parties (way to be environmentally friendly), and eventually got everyone evicted. Oh, and they all had more money than I did. The Man sure was making life tough for them.
