I'm happy about this. I saw that stat on the news this morning about only having a 23% approval rating for this accross the country... it proves that 77% of our country are either rich(very, very few) or really dumb. (most) Sorry, i know a LOT of people disagree with me cause they don't want "the government" to make all the health decisions for them... because they prefer FOR PROFIT INSURANCE COMPANIES to make their decisions for them. Bravo.

As with any stance, there's pros and cons. We are the only industrialized western country that didn't have universal healthcare. But we also have more than 300,000,000 people living in this country.
I wouldn't call people that oppose this "dumb" ; that's buying into the false rhetoric that the media pumps into us. The stances on this bill, both for and against, just show the growing divide in the false left/right paradigm. It is destroying this country.

Special interests run this country.

right Jim. I doubt that 23% is correct, sounds like a made up statistic, although most of this country is stupid or rich or both.

The bill will take effect in 2016. MA already has mandatory healthcare so it won't affect MA people. But for those who want it, the Fed will setup cheap insurance exchanges where you won't be denied coverage. The government doesn't make any healthcare decisions. It just prevents healthcare/insurance corporations from denying coverage. (See Medicare - the only reason it was passed was so that insurance companies would not have to provide coverage to the elderly, their biggest customers)

I won't go into a huge rant about how much of a victory this is. Not only does it strengthen the middle class (the key to a sustainable civilization) but it kills the healthcare/insurance/government triad that has always existed and only benefits the super rich.

Anybody clueless about it that cares to know should check out these -

But, something had to be passed.

Then this is a blow to special interests. The right/left paradigm is false. I have opinions on both sides.

Example: Jew Leiberman, the "independent" from CT, opposed the bill because he receives heaps of money from all the insurance and pharma companies in CT.

Healthcare is a public service. It should be regulated by the government for the interests of the people, and not for the interests of corporations as it has been.

Does it bring us closer to the goal of gassing 99% of the population? No.

Comprehensive health care reform will cost the federal government $940 billion over a ten-year period, but will increase revenue and cut other costs by a greater amount, leading to a reduction of $138 billion in the federal deficit over the same period, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, a Democratic source tells HuffPost. It will cut the deficit by $1.2 trillion over the second ten year period.

yep, that is what they say! All I know is that a doctor visit billed insurance $250. For the same exact visit to the ER, they billed the insurance $1750 twice. Figure that cost savings out.

It really pisses me off when people think "life" starts at conception, and is thereby allowed to have the word "sanctity" attaced to it.
We discussed this stuff in my ol ethics class and got in many heated debates. Sanctity of life. Give me a break.

I cannot. But it's between the hospital and the insurance company. That will be the same after this bill passes.

I think it's great that the democrats will get a huge apparent backlash from bandwagon voters come election time, and they know this, but they passed it anyway. Bravo.

Anyone that thinks this is a good idea is a fucking retard. legit. it has nothing to do with "socialism" or "more government control over us" or about "providing for people who need health care" etc...This country is GOING FUCKING BANKRUPT and our deficit is off the charts in terms of record highs. HOW THE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO AFFORD THIS? Really. Free healthcare for all is GREAT...on PAPER - just like communism. Maybe when we had a budget surplus and weren't in the middle of a recession/depression fall back it would work, but right now? are you fucking kidding me? All it is now is a POLITICAL ISSUE - just like abortion and global warming. Health care became the litmus test to be a liberal...and don't assume I choke on Republican talking points like liberals do on dick, I have no party anymore. No one representts "the people" - they're all scum bags. all this health care debate and process into what it is now just proved is that our government is incompentent and broken...it can't accomplish shit because everyone has too much pride to compromise across the hall.
 ______________________________________
[Mar 22,2010 4:57pm - hungtableed  ""]
...and if it turns out ok and that we can afford it and many many americans benefit - i will eat my words. I am just highly skeptical of our ability to afford this and that it will benefit not only needy Americans but also our healthcare and health industry. I know one way to begin footing the bill - stop international aid to countries that hate us and contries that drag us into shitty situations even though their our ally *cough* isreal...i'lll support this 100% if we stop giving billions to that fuckin shit hole country.

I, the most glorious and humble RTTP news analyst, declare this an affront to the constitution.

find me the part that says "whitey must pay for blackey's healthcare nuggah"

this is a tax on the middle class for the benefit of the poor.

In truth this is just a survival tactic for the dems, as all those poor, uninsured, undereducated folk probably will now vote for their "savior"

And I hope you all realize this doesn't mean everyone gets cheap healthcare...it means everyone is forced to buy health insurance so those with pre-existing conditions can get healthcare without rates rising too high

I laugh though because MA was the model for this and their rates are projected to rise anywhere from 15-30 percent this year.

again, where in the constitution does the government have the power to force people to buy a service?

if you can find that part in the constitution, in plain writing don't give me any of that implied powers bullshit.

THIS

also, the supreme court has already whispered its outrage at this bill.

prepare for ten years of the 2nd amendment (dc handgun ban was struck down and may be applied to all states) and the healthcare bill dominating the supreme court's agenda.
