Today, SOMBRES FORÊTS premiere the new track "Au Flambeau" on heavily trafficked web-portal GunShyAssassin.com. The track hails from SOMBRES FORÊTS' brand-new La Mort du Soleil, released last week by SEPULCHRAL PRODUCTIONS and the band's first album in five years. SOMBRES FORÊTS' "Au Flambeau" can be heard in its entirety here: http://gunshyassassin.com/exclusive/sombre...-exclusive-song-stream-au-flambeau/

SOMBRES FORÊTS hail from the currently hot Quebecois black metal scene, which largely orbits around the band's label home, SEPULCHRAL PRODUCTIONS. SOMBRES FORÊTS' third album and first since 2008's Royaume de Glace, La Mort du Soleil sees the band take on a more atmospheric and introspective approach. By incorporating some influence from his more shoegazing Miserere Luminis solo-project, SOMBRES FORÊTS mastermind Annatar offers an album that is rich in atmosphere and textures, where dissonant and droning guitars glide into the acoustic parts and tortured vocals that have become the group’s trademark combination over the years. As illustrated by its alluring cover, a journey to dark and stormy lands awaits! That cover as well as tracklisting are as follows:

Tracklisting for SOMBRES FORÊTS' La Mort du Soleil
1) Des Épaves
2) Étrangleurs de Soleils
3) Brumes
4) Au Flambeau
5) L'Éther
6) La Disparition
7) Effondrement

Great album. The new Gris is excellent as well.

All of the work here is excellent, but I can't get beyond the vox. The guy sounds like he having a pitchfork rammed up his ass sideways. I mean, even his growls sound shitty. I wish that Stephane Paut would get in on this. Aside from that, it's pretty fucking solid.

Digging this more. Vox are still nerve racking.

New Gris has yet to grow on me, somehow. The bass playing kind of jumps out of the mix and makes the whole thing feel...odd somehow. New Sombres Forets is good, but both bands kind of feel like they never got over making that Misere Luminis record together.

I actually saw Sombre Forets live recently, they were good (and I guess the 2 guys in Gris were half of the backing band). The singer had an electric cello that he exclusively used for whale noises and stuff.

I also think both bands' vocals are great. I can see how they'd be an acquired taste though!

Well put regarding miserere luminis. On the new gris, I actually liked that with the bass. Granted, something about the production of il etait une forêt hit me a lot harder. The textures on that record were luscious. Agreed on vocals. I'm jealous you got to see that show in toronto.

I saw the Montreal show, not Toronto (with Thantifaxath, Chasse Galerie, Crepuscule)! "Il Etait Une Foret" is just so good, I don't really get why they'd take the bass in that direction. Whereas I think "La Mort Du Soleil" is a much more expectable progression from the earlier SF records.

Most unexpected part of that show: Gris and/or Sombres Forets are apparently the type of band that draws a crew of work/family norms all wearing their shirts. Did not see that one coming.

Ah okay. I hear ya on the bass. I guess it doesn't even really sound like Gris but I dig it.

That's funny, I wouldn't have thought that either.

Did you ever listen to Fleurety? The new Gris bass reminds me of them.
