Virulence - A Conflict Scenario[views:10787][posts:20]___________________________________________ [Nov 5,2012 11:52am - MikeofDecrepitude ""] [img] http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Virulence/2226 Band was too good to be as short lived as they were. Pulled this record out about 4 days ago and have been listening non-stop. Still one of my favorite albums, along with the Dormant Strains ep. These guys knew exactly what they were doing and were just what the scene needed at the time. Please come back? R.I.P. bennyhillifier |

Jamaica Plain I think in...damn, c'mon memory....2002? I thought there was something wrong with the PA, but it was just that dudes fucked up vocals. They were great though, played again with em on the Cape a year later. |

True story: I was a huge Virulence fan. So when I heard the members had a new band, and were looking for a singer, I was very interested. I ended up talking to Chris. I assumed because he was the bassist in Pillory he'd been bassist of Virulence. Me: "Yeah, you guys was awesome! Everything but the vocals. Singer sucked balls. I'll do much better, don't worry! Everything else, though, I loved!" Chris: "I was the singer" Me: "... ... ... So, uh, what time should I show up to audition?" Chris: "... " Honestly, I still can't believe he didn't kick my arse for that one. |

I remember him and Nick telling me Morbid freaked when they heard it for the first time. By that time I think Nick was all into jazz and the other guys were more into their indie rock band anyways. |

Phobia, Total Fucking Destruction, Unholy Grave, and I believe the Red Chord also played. I know that I was initially put off by the vocals because even though I dug things other than death metal at the time, like DEP, hardcore, etc, it was at a point when I was listening to a ton of death metal and gore/grind, so I really dug his gutturals. The style definitely grew on me, and I kinda dig how the gutturals are still used sparingly on the full length. I think it helped give the album a really twisted vibe. I'm pretty sure I also saw the very first Pillory gig, and it was at All Asia cafe in Cambridge. Correct me if I'm wrong about the location. |
