Anybody ever had to mic a fiddle?[views:2795][posts:22]_________________________________ [Feb 24,2012 10:35am - xmikex ""] I'm doing a job tonight and one of the bands performing is doing a cover of (you guessed it) The Devil Went Down To Georgia. They're super concerned about the sound because the fiddle player likes to move around a lot. I'm thinking about taping a lav mic to the body of the fiddle. Thoughts? |

Option 1: soundman provides a mic, and the fiddler sits THE FUCK STILL Option 2: fiddler gets a fiddle with a pickup, and a wireless, and dance all they want. Hot micing a fiddle during a rock show is not a good idea. If he wants to dance, steer him to a homo-bar. |

Maybe a ribbon right up the middle for added "depth" |

I got a pretty good sound out of that, and had to fill occasionally with a wireless handheld mic on a stand in front of him. Also (from a previous thread) the workflow of running a monitor send to a second powered amplifier (that had a submix input) to 2 monitors worked great too. All in all it was a great sounding show that, as expected, went completely unappreciated by the med student performers who expected their combo amps in a study lounge to sound like carnegie hall. |
