Monday Night Observations: - The Jets/Ravens game was so bad it defaulted to good. If either quarterback could do anything right that game could have been a blowout in either direction. Watching Flacco float passes 10 feet over wide open receivers got old real quick. He's still got that loopy college throwing motion that he has to get over. Sanchez, on the other hand, is hopeless. The Ravens secondary is in the worst shape it's ever been in, and he can't even look past his check down receivers. As soon as the Ravens decided to cover Tomlinson sneaking out to the flat, goodbye third down conversions. - What we saw in this game was 2 opposite ends of terrrrrible offensive coordinating. Schottenheimer (true to his legacy) was more conservative than Trent Lott at a Christian singles picnic. Meanwhile it's 3rd and 1 on a critical drive with the Jets missing their best NT, and the Ravens are calling play actions bombing it out down the field and running posts to the sidelines that Flacco hadn't even come close on all night. At one point it looked like they were throwing it deep just to try and draw more penalties because it was the only way they could move the ball. - What the hell was with that white dude losing ten yards and almost coughing up a safety on a punt return? I won't even bother looking up his name because he won't be there next Sunday. - Let's talk about discipline. When a receiver drops a pass it's bad hands, and bad focus. When a receiver catches a pass, looks at the first down marker, and steps out of bounds in front of it... that's bad coaching. When you tell a guy all off season he's in the best secondary ever, and then he can't stop a receiver without koala-bear-ing his arm... that's bad coaching. It's proof positive how much time this off season was spent on discipline and football fundamentals, and how much time was spent flexing in the mirror. - The Dustin Keller brain fart was a pretty great icing on the cake, but it was really just the last in a series of things that blew up in Rex Ryan's face. He had been bragging all week that he was going to use Braylon Edwards as a special teamer to block kicks, because letting balls bounce off his hands just comes naturally to the guy, and what happens? - A minute and a half left in the game, the Jets have the ball with 1 time out and all they need is a field goal to win it... and where are the Jets fans??? First game in a new stadium. New team. Celebrity quarterback. Celebrity coach. And what did you see every single time they cut to the crowd... some dink in face paint hanging his head in misery. No Fireman Ed, no Jets fanatics, no nothing. If that had been New England you'd better believe that place would have been electric until the last microsecond of that game. What a pathetic town that deserves a pathetic football team.
