back pain/issues[views:4297][posts:41]_______________________________ [Apr 26,2010 10:44am - Yeti ""] i've always had back trouble due to height, but as i'm getting older it's becoming a big problem. i really can't do anything physical without knotting up my back muscles, every time i load equipment i can barely stand up straight the next day. it's not just lumbar problems either, it's all the way from my neck to my tailbone, mainly the muscles lining my spine. being a desk jockey doesn't help, and i'm tired of it. i've already done a ritual, a barrel roll, deleted my system32 folder, asked Dani Filth, and accidentally the whole thing, but i need more. does anyone suffer from chronic back pain who has exercises/stretches they do for preventative measures? |

I haven't done them myself, I can ask him for details on what exactly he does and let you know. You could also try having a chick walk on you, that's the only thing that ever cured back pain for me... |

____________________________________ [Apr 26,2010 11:00am - Slag NLI ""] It takes awhile to work things out, but honestly over time, yoga increases the strength of the core back muscles and helps align the spine. I try to keep up with it, when I don't, I feel a huge difference in pain and energy. |

____________________________________ [Apr 26,2010 11:04am - ARKTOUROS ""] i think your height gives you a huge disadvantage from the start. because you have a lot of leverage with your arms and your back, you probably use those for heavy lifting more than you realize, when you should really just keep your back straight as a razor and use your legs when lifting anything. they are 100 times stronger than your arms+back, which should never be strained when lifting. i know lifting with your legs is obvious but in practice it usually doesn't happen when rushing equipment down stairs. get a pull-up bar and do all sorts of pulls while keeping your back straight. helps my back a lot. i sit on my ass all day at work and when i'm on the drumkit and i have no back problems. the other thing is doing squats while keeping your knees parallel to your toes, putting your arms straight in front of you and slowly going up and down, as if you're about to sit down. all this while keeping your spine straight. and what the fuck are you doing loading equipment? you just need to carry a mic in your pants. |

I've also been weight training aggressively for about 12 years. Try stretching in the morning and at night, possibly some light weight training to strengthen the muscles around the area. I have the same problems and hope I will still be able to lift weights down the road. |

Cracking the back effectively requires a LOT, but at the same time, not risking further injury requires a certain amount of softness/distribution at the same time, and shoes/heels kind of take away from that. It's the reason why pain relief from the walking thing is hard to replicate with anything else, because it manages to take on both somewhat contradictory principles of heavy yet soft. I wouldn't go lay under a heavy rock or piece of metal and expect it to cure my back pain, and I'd avoid heels under the same principle. I'd say just make sure she's not tiny, because weight is necessary to really work the back muscles, especially with Yeti being a taller dude and all. |

It's degenerative, it will get worse and worse as i get older, and by the time i retire, i'll be in a wheelchair... or at least that's what the docs say. But since i got into doing yoga in the mornings, it's all changed. I now can take about 600mg twice a day, and only feel a little bit of pain on the average day, and still a bearable amount after loading equipment. Before yoga i still had to do opiates (painkillers) after shows to even be able to move. |

SAVED MY LIFE. tommy neuraxis, tre fetus and roman necrophagist taught me the stretch and they're all drummers who swear by it. |

People don't realize how much it helps your back by strengthening your core muscles as for stretching when i pull a muscle the dr. always give me the same stretch routine to do and it helps. lay flat on your stomach. prop your upper body up onto your elbows. hold. now raise from your elbows to your hands arching your back as much as possible. hold. down to flat on your stomach arms outstretched. now this part might be hard to explain. draw your upper body back towards your legs into an almost fetal position on your knees. your ass will be over your ankles. chest into your knees and keeps your arms outstretched, reach as far and hard as you can stretchin your back out. hold. back to the flat position and repeat onto your elbows. repeat a few times in the morning for 5 minutes before you get out of bed. |
