SORRY you can't use the lens.. it's one of the DX series lenses. if you put it on a FF body, about 1/3 of your frame will be the inside of the lens. I'm looking into getting a 17-55 f2.8 lens.. which is a DX flavor too. |

I thought you did... with film bodies, the area that the light hits when it comes through the lens is 35mm. on most digitals, it's around 22mm. this means that if you have a 12mm film lens, on most digital cameras, it's a 18mm equivalent (but still has the DOF properties of a 12mm). the DX lenses are made with that 1.5x cropping factor in mind. I mean, why bother engineering hoodies and things out of the way if you don't care about the outer 1/3 of a lens, right? currently, nikons are at 1.5x cropping factor and canons are at 1.6x. this almost means if you have a 200mm tele-lens, you will be shooting at 300mm on a nikon D100. if you take a DX lens and put it on a FF body, it's like you have a coffee can around the outer 1/3 of your image. |
