Loved it for years but as I got older and stopped dating goth chicks the tackiness became somewhat more glaring. The new albums are awful, but yeah, there are a lot of legitimately menacing riffs on some of the older albums. I would make an exception for "Damnation and a Day." It's unbelievably catchy. I haven't bothered with anything after that. No doubt about it Nick Barker was one of the best drummers in the scene for a long time. I hope he digs himself out of the bathtub he shares with Tony Laureano in Shagrath's basement where they shoot junk together and reminisce about all the great bands they got kicked out of. |

The vocals are corny Gargamel bullshit, but there are some really catchy riffs. The "Temples aflame on our path to glory!" spoken word track at the end of Dusk and Her Embrace is totally sweet shit too. Then that single came out, I forget the name of the song, and their home video came out with it. I saw the video for the new song, gave it a "and that's that" hand wipe and let the nu-goths flock to it like... well like nu-goths to cradle of filth. |
