I really don't like arguing on the internet, especially about politics, but these "$7 trillion" and "more than all other presidents combined" memes are crying out for one of wikipedia's [citation needed] tags. http://www.crotchshotradio.com/2009/06/obama-is-spending-more-than-all-other.html Check the numbers at the bottom. Not accounting for any inflation between when Washington took office and the institution of the Fed in 1912 (which is when the US gov't took control of our currency back from Wall Street), presidents #1 through #43 spent about $96 trillion. Obama's TOTAL FY 2010 spending, the first budget he has control over, is $3.6T. That's still a fuckload of money, and it's still probably unsustainable in the long run. But it's not "more than all previous presidents combined". It's more like 5% of that number. And it will take a shitload of emergency financing bills in FY 2009 to get that first-year number anywhere close to $7T. If you have different sources, please provide them; different counting methods may reach different results, and I'd like to see exactly what conservative pundits are counting t reach the $7T/7 months figure.
