NatGeo was shortened for the sole reason of shortening it, but changing a simple word "SciFi" into "SyFy" is just plain stupid. It's a big smack in the face for traditional science fiction fans and the subculture it has created. SciFi and "hip" have never really fell into the same column. As with the mid-to-late 70s and early 80s, though, I think a SciFi boom is about to happen. (Thanks to StarTrek, Comic Book Movies, and the like) but SyFy is just plain dumb. This guy needs to get fired - better yet, someone needs to phaser his ass. |
