True but he was institutionalized after the fact. Sure he was crazy, but what he did record in the institution, Diagnose:Lebensfahr or whatever had no trace of those kind of vocals. It was more like dark ambient/industrial and his vocals were actually pretty uncrazy yet still awesome. Either way, "Death-Pierce Me" is still in my top ten BM records of all time. I think the music really speaks for itself and people need to stop putting all attention towards the vox; love em or hate em. What about the amazing clean channel guitar work? Sorrow filled melodies and dark crushing riffage?
True, it was after the fact, but once you've seen his photo and realize that he is a highly disturbed individual, it gives his music even more authenticity. I know a few people who hated Silencer at first, but after repeated listens and discovering the above mentioned mythology, it totally changed their perceptions. Vocals could never make an entire album, only enhance it. The music is well played, mournful, and dare I say, sincere? 4 marks for mentioning Diagnose:Lebensgefahr. I'm in need of more dark ambient lately, especially something of the Aural Hypnox fair.
