I think that impending doom should just break up. have you read their lyrics? laughable. Christian band.
So because they're Christian, they aren't allowed to express a viewpoint through their chosen medium? Yea, obviously the Christians are close-minded.
I've been on EVERY side of the religious fence - from hardcore christian to light agnostic to the full-blown atheist I am now. I used to "tolerate" the christian viewpoint, but the more and more I'm exposed to it while I'm on the other side, the more I'm disgusted. The very moral and value sets that Western monotheistic culture is based on is what has allowed our rapid social evolution to happen - but it, in effect, is also what is setting us up for a rapid descent straight into the fucking ground. Western civilization is permeated with several self-deceiving (and ultimately self-destructive) ideas: that humanity is a "chosen" species, that humanity is inherently superior to other species, and the worst: that Earth itself is a collection of resources, all of which are available for our exploitation and our exploitation only. The latter is the very foundation that our civilization is built upon - extracting resources from foreign areas and consuming them at a rate greater than they can be replenished. The Christian has built a world that is INHERENTLY set for destruction, bringing every human (and consequently every non-human) with it. This is in direct contrast with what many pagan and native american tribes believed: that Earth is a living being with which we can deepen our relationship with. What these people believed (which in my opinion is far superior to the Christian viewpoint) motivated them to respect their environment because they were full-well aware that their environment was what ultimately allowed them to live. That being said, Metal itself is a counter-culture genre. You can argue with me all you want, but the facts are right in front of you - there is a reason metal is based on extremities and aggression. The aggression is often times a direct result of a feeling of social anomie, a misanthropic demeanor, a disgust for the modern world we live in. You don't ever hear metal songs about how awesome it is to live in America - you hear just the opposite. For this reason, I believe that "Christian" metal is not only laughable, but disgusting and insulting. When it is acceptable throughout the underground to use Metal to communicate viewpoints that perpetuate the status-quo that Metal itself was created to protest, we should all just give up on music.
Shhh
