Wizard's First Rule was one of the worst books I have ever read. What a waste of a reading week. ugh. That said, I've heard that some of the later books in that series (Faith of the Fallen?) are somewhat better, but I don't know how much I want to find out.
I read Wizard's First Rule in 8th grade. At that point I'd gotten over the Dragonlance stuff and at the time I thought it was really awesome high fantasy. I read the next few books in the series and I think I stopped at Faith of the Fallen. I really enjoyed them when I was a kid, they were massive and at the same time easy to grasp - it only focused on a handful of characters and there wasn't a lot of crazy underlying themes or intrigue. Faith of the Fallen was alright, the main character gets imprisioned in some dark-age dictatorship country and shows people humanism and art. I have no desire to pick up the series again.
