[Oct 26,2008 10:01am - Conservationist] grizloch said:the "system" (how our government functions within the socio-economic world) is far beyond comprehension by the average joe, and the attempt to understand it, and identifying with what someone else who seems to know more about it or a have greater authority on the subject than you or I, is the only functional solution, it isn't ideal, but it is inevitable and unchanging, there is no solution to this problem Here we agree. But the question becomes then: what is a better system? I also would add this caveat: The system isn't solely to blame. You need to look at the people who make up a nation. If people here don't give a shit, why the heavy Obama and liberal propaganda daily? Obviously they do care, and in my experience, when people offer out stuff as tentatively as it has been tossed around here, they're looking for solutions they haven't yet found. I dont think the system is to blame so much, it's the nature of such a thing to get more and more complex over time as situations change, population grows, and the world economy fluctuates, in truth (I hate to sound like some kind of a naive anarchist here, because I am not) the system has grown too big for its britches and things need to be reevaluated (not necessarily revolutionized) by all parties, the people who make up the nation are definitely to blame (government is made of people too), but there are a very small number of people out there with the means (both social and biological) to comprehend the system, idiots are abound (the most terrifying thing about idiots, by the by, is that they don’t know they are idiots), those who have hereditary advantages (wealth) are the ones in control of the government, and they act in their self interest first, as is human nature, before worrying about those who might be better suited to comprehend the system but don't have the means to attain the status required to do anything about anything and people DO give a shit, if anything that was my whole point in that quote, people WANT to comprehend, that's why those liberal hippy scum are so common, because they hear "Obama is the savior of our nation" and they want to believe it, and maybe they heard it from someone they respect, they have reason enough for them to believe it, much like the idiots who circulate email propaganda about how many scandals Obama has been "involved" in, or people who think that Obama isn't a citizen because they heard that some guy on a conservative talk show hasn't seen his birth certificate, or dental records, or credit card statement... it's all a means towards an ends, such is the way of politics, get the people motivated by whatever means necessary to vote for your candidate and against the other by enhancing their flaws the people that matter in elections are the people who "go with their gut" without any rationalization, calling Obama a non-american liberal elitist is going to make the person working the register at Walmart want to vote for McCain "American Hero", and Palin a not horrible looking family woman who will be progressive (she's a woman), but not too much, IF they even put that much thought into which lever they switch in the polling booth it’s a popularity contest, quantity over quality
