Possessed was vital, as was Master, and Sepultura also released in 1984-1985. Hellhammer had invented their hybrid black-death by then, and Sodom had been releasing it for a couple years. Ditto Bathory. The real kickoff was 1982 -- Discharge, yes a punk HC band -- which basically innovated the technique others followed.
