I am going to try not to go into instant bash mode and try and give this a fair assessment. Ok I just listened to this and here is my take on this song by song: This Was Just Your Life – The music started out with some promise, then het opened his trap. You know I just can’t get him “singing” or trying sing. Overly long, could have ended 2 min sooner. Drums sound like shit. Not a fan of the guitar tone. The whole melodo-power-dragonforce thing at the end just felt really forced and contrived. The End Of The Line – opening riff, meh. riff at 1:01 not bad. Again music not bad, kick sounds really weak, snare overpowers everything. There was a time…20years ago when het sang with conviction and lyrically it was powerful, this is not. I know I must sound crazy or some of you will say I am, but musically I am getting a very Mercyful Fate vibe, just a vibe but it’s still there. Oh my god, the solo, or what hamster is trying to pass of as 1 just kicked in. Disgusting. Mellow part not good, borders on total suck. Again overly long. This one could have ended 3 min sooner. Broken, Beaten & Scarred – Intro not bad, not great either. Main riff I like a lot, very Kyuss-like. het just ruined it. Damn. Ok, music is not bad, lyrically it’s not very good. Solo just kicked in, this one is not too bad, considering how horrible the last one was. Still getting that MF vibe. This one is long but didn’t FEEL as long as the others. Overall the best one I’ve heard. The Day That Never Comes – I already said I don’t like this song, at all! All Nightmare long – I like the beginning a lot, the fast part that is. Oh man the vox suck. Is everyone of these songs over 6min? It feels like they purposely aimed to write long songs just for the sake of writing long songs. Solo is not good, at all. Riff that comes in at 5:23 is not bad. ok, solo 2 just came in, better than the first still not good. The riff after that solo should have been used through-out the entire song. The song would’ve rocked. This one feels really, really long. Cyanide – haven’t like this song since I first heard it. Just way too ADHD for me. It’s all over the place for no real good reason. The Unforgiven III – God I really don’t even want to listen to this song, ok here goes… UGGHHH piano sucks!!!!!!! Oh please don’t sing over this… wait horns??? Is this a song leftover from load or reload. It sounds like it. I am all for songs that are out of the “realm” of what a band usually does, if it’s a good song. This is not one of those times. I say this with some trepidation, but out of the songs on load and reload there is one that I like, The Outlaw Torn. In no way is it a metallica song, but it is a well written song nonetheless. This tries to be an EPIC ballad, fails miserably, solo sounds so forced, and I would really like to jam that wah pedal up his ass. I am trying to be fair, in fact I don’t even mind The Unforgiven 1, The Judas Kiss – Very MF. I could so hear King singing over this. 3:33 in and I am just bored. Nothing really has grabbed my ear in any of these songs. Oh here comes creepy wah fade in solo, blegh… again overly long for no good reason. I like long songs if it has a reason for being long. This one has no reason, just like most of these songs. Suicide & Redemption – I am 3:54 in nothing spectacular about this. At least het’s not singing on this. Mediocre at best. Riff at 7:20 is not bad. Again I can hear the MF influence all over this. 9:57 song is over. Thankfully. My Apocalypse – Another attempt at being heavy, for the sake of being heavy. None of this sounds natural, very forced. Riff that comes in at 1:51 is cool, even hets’ vox aren’t that bad until he starts screaming spare parts, spare parts. All right, here is my final conclusion, the sum of the parts that are good do not make the whole worthwhile. I would say it is better than S.A but then again even Jack Daniels and Pizza sounds better than S.A. Is it better than load and reload, marginally. I have been holding out hope for 17 years that they would pull their heads out of there asses. I know, I am an idiot. I really don’t know who this would appeal too. The older fans like myself, who pretty much grew up on the first 4 albums aren’t going to like it. It is so left field from black that most of those fans aren’t going to dig it. The fans they gained during load and reload might dig it, but again it’s different. The fans they lost during s.a. will never come back. I think if I had to pick a song on this album that I could say didn’t totally suck, at gun point mind you, I would have to say, Broken, Beaten & Scarred. Other than that at least they didn’t fail at something…disappointment.
