age limits for bands....[views:3188][posts:28]______________________________________ [Aug 15,2008 12:56pm - ouchdrummer ""] Hypothetically speaking: A death-metal band has people of the ages of 26, 31, and 36. This hypothetical band is in the process of auditioning vocalists, and they get a reply online from someone slightly younger than they are used to playing with, 16 to be exact. In this aforementioned vocalists' reply there was a sample of his vocals, and he was brutal. In fact, he was the most brutal vocalist, possably, that the band had ever heard. (maybe a bit of an exageration, but none the less, very gnarly.) So they set up a time for him to come down and audition. And the band starts to worry about if it DOES work out.. Here's what THIS HYPOTHETICAL BAND is thinkin: Will he be able to play shows in bars with the band? If not, will they be able to get him a fake ID? Will the band be able to bring him accross state lines without his parents signatures on a release form every time, or will they be in jeapordy of kidnapping charges? Thought? |

I'd worry more about transportation and school issues. Other than that, you obviously want to make sure he's mature enough to handle the band. Also, most bars are usually cool with underage band members. Worst case scenario they usually do the ol' "wait outside before you play, leave when you're done" shit. And as long as his folks are cool with him being in a band I wouldn't think there would be any amber alerts for your out of state shows. Try to nail the mom! |

_________________________________________ [Aug 17,2008 5:45pm - Brandon... nli ""] As long as he is willing to be a full time member, parents ok with late nights out at practice/shows and is mature enough. Do it. Kids will have more time, passion and energy. Just has to be the right person really. Ive jammed with people that are 28 and cant handle a "band" band. Age isnt always important. Although i would hope anyone for my band would be 18+ |

___________________________________ [Aug 18,2008 9:10pm - contagion ""] age doesnt matter. me tony and max formed contagion/cadaveryne when we were freshmen in high school and were playing at least a show a week by the time we were juniors. brian was 19 but had the maturity of a 7 year old which advocates that age doesnt matter, dedication does. tony wrote 85% of fathering the apocalypse and hes the youngest one of the group. |
_________________________________ [Aug 18,2008 9:19pm - Ryann_ ""] When I first joined In Dire Need I was a senior in high school, 17. I had to take a week off from school to make our record with Kurt. Never had a problem with 21+ shows at any point while I was in that band, still not 21. As long as the kid is legit, parents are cool, does not matter. |
________________________________ [Aug 18,2008 10:46pm - BenFo ""] Vitek was like, 15 when they started Decapitated. To me its all about how the band clicks together, and how much passion he has for the music. Conversations between a 16 year old and a 36 year old are probably going to be a little awkward at times, but if he's mature for his age, then go for it. |
