any relatives of yours that fought in WWII or WWI?[views:5191][posts:65]________________________________ [Apr 17,2008 11:33am - aril ""] Or Vietnam. I'm sure there's a bunch. My grandparents were both in WWII, grandmother as a nurse and grandfather as a gunner in a bomber. he was the guy that sat in the back of the plane in the pillbox/turret type thing shooting enemy planes down. great grandfather fought in the trenches of WWI, was mustardgassed and survived to tell about it. uncle was a paratrooper with a 'nade launcher in Vietnam, shot a nade on a cliff type thing, and took out a bunch of Viets in one hit. was shot and hit with nade fragments 4 or 5 times as well. still has flashbacks. i wanna start researching this crap because it's awesommme. on a side note, my brother in law's grandfather was a nazi soldier in germany.. haha. |

At my parents house I have a ton of WWII medals, and patches from my grandfather, and my father's uncles. The coolest of them all though is an iron cross, and a German patch with a knight on a horse, and swastikas in the corners. My father told me his father never really talked much about the war. But anybody who has studied WWII culture at all knows there's only 1 way an American soldier comes home with something like that. |

______________________________________ [Apr 17,2008 12:08pm - ouchdrummer ""] my dad was in vietnam... actually a funny story..... He was in boot camp, and the were doing this drill where they would have to run a half mile with another soldier on thier back. My dad being a lot like me, in that he was a total wise ass, the drill sargeant made my dad run with a 300 lbs dude on his back. He ran the whole half mile, then rode back on the other guys back. The drill sargeant made them keep running another two miles.. and my dad colapsed. They got him to the first aid tent and found out he had shattered both of his heels.. and he had run almost 2 miles after he had done it. He's just so stubborn that he didnt really tell anyone, that is until he passed out from the pain... moral of the story is us fitzpatricks shouldnt be so damn stubborn... and that if you hurt yourself real bad in boot camp, they make you be an engineer in vietnam, and you dont get killed. So all in all, me being alive is all thanks to some asshole drill sargaent, and my dads complete pigheadidness... |

He was stationed in China with the troops that were ready to move into Japan. Then, the U.S. dropped the bomb, and he didn't have to go to Japan after all. My grandfather is a ridiculously bad-ass old German/Austrian guy. He grew up on a farm, then joined the marines... so, even though he is 80 years old, the guy still has muscle definition and is over 6' tall. He singlehandedly pushed my old car down the street when he was in his 70s, and he refused to let me help him. Sometimes, he demonstrates his marine death moves on my boyfriend, and it's hilarious. I'm fairly certain that my grandfather is capable of beating the ever-living crap out of most people. I spent the night at my grandparents' house once a couple of years ago, and my grandfather was walking around the house with no shirt on. It scared the crap out of me. It was like seeing a skinnier version of Peter Steele... but all wrinkled and covered with liver spots. He had to put a shirt on because it was creeping me out. |

He spent the war cross the Atlantic 6596496 times dodging U-Boats and pitching up the sailors from the ships that weren't so lucky. Before the war, he once jumped of a cruise ship somewhere in the Pacific, in shark infested waters, to resuce the Captain's grandson who fell overboard.
