___________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 7:53pm - subjugate ""] i like great guitar playing even if i do suck at it myself i know good innovative stuff when i hear it i have seen some guys in bands that'd make 90%+ of the folks here cringe but man they blew me away with how great they were saw this guy when he was in DIO 29. __________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 8:02pm - Kalopsia ""] i hated rage against the machine. i'm glad they're no longer around. but anyway, how in the name of holy fuck did munky and head get to number 26, ahead of people like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Pete Townsend, and Timo Tolkki, looking past the mystery that they're even on there to begin with!!!??? |
_________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 8:04pm - Terence ""] why the fuck would Euronymous be on this list. He was an awful guitar player. He's probably only on it cause of the whole mayhem/burzum story, which is probably the most tired and exhausted story of all time. I would rather listen to the wretched last breath coming from a dying, sickly old horse then this gay story again. |
________________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 10:21pm - DeOdiumMortis ""] Flat out, that list sucks. No where near as bad as Rolling Stone's list though. At least there are actual guitarists on this list. Still shitty though. It's a popularity contest, not a measure of actual ability, fuck that. |
___________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 10:22pm - succubus ""] i wonder who votes...i mean..their staff? |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 10:22pm - MyDeadDoll ""] how did korn make that list? |
___________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 10:24pm - Kalopsia ""] you're absolutely right DeOdiumMortis. it has nothing to do with skill, just popularity. shit i didn't even know Euronymous played guitar, i thought he only sang. the only reason Munkey and Head are on there is because they're popular, but no real musician takes them seriously. i wouldn't even put Zakk Wylde up as high as he his. he's done nothing special. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 10:25pm - MyDeadDoll ""] this makes me sad: 55. Trey Azagthoth (MORBID ANGEL) |
___________________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:13pm - TheGreatSpaldino ""] I'm sorry, but this list is retarded. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:15pm - MyDeadDoll ""] i think we can all agree on that. |
___________________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:16pm - TheGreatSpaldino ""] the funniest thing is... is that this magazine is a guitar magazine. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:17pm - MyDeadDoll ""] it's triggered at those 14 year old kids that think korn is just the best... |
___________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:28pm - succubus ""] like i said..i wonder who voted.. anyone know ? jim does it say? |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:34pm - MyDeadDoll ""] the freshman class of the high school up the block. |
________________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:48pm - DeOdiumMortis ""] It's probably a reader's poll. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:48pm - MyDeadDoll ""] how many times did you vote? |
________________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:51pm - DeOdiumMortis ""] 182,651. How do you think ~~checks the list~~ Ace Frehley got so high up there? |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:53pm - MyDeadDoll ""] i knew it. jerk. |
___________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:55pm - succubus ""] you know that for a fact? |
_____________________________________ [Jan 24,2004 11:57pm - MyDeadDoll ""] yeah, actually, i made him do it. just to piss people off. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 12:22am - BornSoVile ""] #51 is a scam. Trey should be at least where C C deville is. interesting list though. |
_________________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 3:14am - BobNOMAAMRooney ""] Terence said:why the fuck would Euronymous be on this list. He was an awful guitar player. The whole Euronymous being a shitty guitar player story always peeves me. Yeah he might have sucked live, but the music he wrote warrants his place on any list of greatest metal guitarists. Regardless, where the fuck are Quorthorn, Samoth, and Demonaz? |
_______________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 5:52am - DeOdiumMortis ""] Yeah, I'm not surprised to not see Ihsahn up there because he's slipped into near-obscurity with Peccatum and whatever else he's up to, but Samoth is still out and about and Zyklon's just getting bigger. They've both been in the Guitar World lists before. Rat bastards. |
______________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 12:50pm - RustedAngel ""] that list is much more accurate than the top 20 rolling stone guitar players. |
____________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 2:01pm - MyDeadDoll ""] even if it's more accurate, it's still sad |
_____________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 2:43pm - RustedAngel ""] do you even play guitar? or just another girl that just plays the bass? i consider this list not in any particular order, just the 100 top guitar players with #'s next to their names. |
______________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 3:14pm - swamplorddvm ""] Chuck Schuldiner (death) the Kokko brothers (Kalmah), they have beautiful solos. Michel Romeo (Symphony X) Alexi "Wildchild" (Children of Bodom) ...I'm glad to see someone knows Prong. |
_____________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 5:31pm - boobtoucher ""] where the fuck is SLASH? sucka mc's Also the guys from dillinger and the coalesce guitarist tear shit off the walls. "beautiful solos"? what a queer |
_______________________________ [Jan 25,2004 5:40pm - moran ""] 15. Slash (GUNS N' ROSES) |
_____________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 6:20pm - RustedAngel ""] 05. Eddie Van Halen (VAN HALEN) 17. Yngwie Malmsteen 20. Chuck Schuldiner (DEATH) 27. John Petrucci (DREAM THEATER) 35. Marten Hagström & Fredrik Thorndendal (MESHUGGAH) 42. Mikael Åkerfeldt & Peter Lindgren (OPETH) 44. Nuno Bettencourt (EXTREME) 53. Steve Vai (DAVE LEE ROTH) 55. Trey Azagoth (Morbid Angel) 61. Alex Skolnick & Eric Peterson (TESTAMENT) 70. Bjorn Gelotte & Jesper Stromblad (IN FLAMES) 92. Bill Steer (CARCASS) 96. Alexi Laiho (CHILDREN OF BODOM) and way to ruin another thread (zzzzz) BOE. |
________________________________ [Jan 25,2004 9:00pm - retzam ""] My problems with this list: 1)James and Kirk should NOT be on there, especially not in the #2 spot, give me a break. 2)Tony Iommi shouldn't be #1, he should be in the teens or 20s. 3)#1 should be Jimmy Page or Eddie Van Halen 4)Head and Munky...#26...rrrrrriiight Anyway, other than that, I am pretty satisfied. I like Guitar World's inclusion of Bill Steer, Mikael and Peter, Abbath, Michael Amott, etc. and I am quite suprised to see Euronymous on any published American list of any kind! Did they include a picture? Or Mayhem's story maybe? Whatever, now my pet peeve: Steve Vai listed as a guitarist for David Lee Roth! Why don't they list him independently, which was how he got famous more or less and is when he wrote all of his best stuff. |
_______________________________ [Jan 26,2004 3:39am - moran ""] I agree with every thing Retzam said, except that James hetfield is really under-rated. |
________________________________ [Jan 26,2004 6:35am - retzam ""] moran said:I agree with every thing Retzam said, except that James hetfield is really under-rated. Is he really? I agree if you are talking about song writing, cause he wrote some pretty mean riffs in his day. |
___________________________________ [Jan 26,2004 11:08am - litacore ""] Mantas #39, woo-hoo |
_________________________________________ [Jan 26,2004 11:19am - A_Cold_Reality ""] i don't know if they are judging be talent level, but i think this list should be called the most influential guitar players. I def think its better than rolling stones list, and i don't think its a bad list. These guitar players are for the most part, very good players, with a few exceptions of course (korn???). Tom Morello is a good guitar player, his stuff not be real difficult to play, but he is very innovative. Im not a RATM fan, don't get me wrong. But I am a guitar player. |
__________________________________ [Jan 27,2004 5:59pm - joneser ""] This list is way messed up but I can give you credit for Angelo, Petrucci and a few others. You can tell the "list lord" isn't an old school metalhead. Where the hell is Chris Oliva? |
__________________________________ [Jan 27,2004 6:22pm - Mike_FOD ""] Slimebag Darrel, Zakk Unwylde, Ace Frehley and Paul Gaynley are guitarists named before the likes of Chuck Schuldiner, Fredrik Thordendal and Martin Hagstrom? I'd like to know who the idiot was that conceived that list. The fact that Korn's guitarists are up there gives this list no validity. |
