COMUS Appreciation!!!!!!!!![views:7424][posts:11]______________________________ [Jan 17,2008 8:52pm - eric ""] Got introduced to this band about 6 months ago and can't stop listening to this goddamn album. crazy psychedelic british acid folk from the 70's with dark lyrical themes. there is so much to this bands songs, im still discovering new stuff in their music. unlike any band ive ever heard. if anyone knows of others like this, please tell... if you get bored with music and hearing the same band over and over again, check this band out! fan myspace http://www.myspace.com/comusuk [img] |

You might also like The Trees, Forest (also The Story, singer's contemporary band), and The Incredible String Band (as well as COB, Clive from ISB's other project) if you haven't heard them yet. The Trees especially are a total mindfuck and their stuff is pretty easy to find, whether bootlegged or reissued. |

______________________________ [Jun 7,2010 10:46am - Yeti ""] i just listened to "First Utterance" for the first time, i have no idea what to say. that is by far the most haunting and bizarre thing i've heard yet. it's incredible, i just didn't expect it to be so wild and sinister. this old guy at Jelly's in Worcester recommended them to me after he found out that i'm a huge Opeth fan, and they had the "Song to Comus" collection. "The Bite" and "Song to Comus" are the tracks that stood out the most to me, but that hardly means the other tracks are sub-par. that was one hell of an experience. |
______________________________ [Jun 7,2010 10:47am - Yeti ""] i'm not surprised at all that this went nowhere, songs about rape, murder, and mental illness put to haunting acid-folk wasn't exactly marketable in 1969. |
___________________________________ [Jun 7,2010 10:50am - DreadKill ""] mike from opeth borrowed the title "my arms, your hearse" from comus lyrics |
_____________________________ [Jun 7,2010 1:09pm - Yeti ""] yeah i picked out that and The Baying of the Hounds. i listened to "To Keep From Crying" as well, it's ok, but nowhere near the same level. They steered far away from the dismal and violent motif of "First Utterance" and tried to make something more upbeat. it has some really cool melodies, but it didn't grab me the way the other did. |

______________________________ [Jun 15,2010 1:13pm - Yeti ""] i cannot get enough of First Utterance. anyone who hasn't heard this should listen to it immediately. |
