horror_tang said:
The truth is that the leading cause of motor vehicle accident deaths is driver distraction. Talking on a cell phone or eating breakfast on the way to work while driving is more likely to cause a motor vehicle fatality than someone driving drunk. The true number of deaths caused by drunk drivers is more comparable to deaths caused by drivers that fall asleep behind the wheel.
that has some merit but i have witnessed numerous drunk drivers that swerve violently onto the wrong side of the road and hit parked cars and all sorts of other shit. most notably i have witnessed someone do exactly that, swerve uncontroably back and forth onto the wrong side of the road and then nail a telephone pole... i witnessed this in my rear view mirror. are you going to tell me that getting tanked and driving (which i have no real problem with actually, you can ask numerous friends and acquaintances) is the same as eating a burger or snack wrap while driving? just because 90% of the people can do something, it doesnt mean that they all can. there have been actual tests that show most people become shittier drivers the more drunk they are. i WOULD classify that as driver distraction though. have you actually researched these statistics? 50% of fatal accidents are from intoxicated operators? i can toss around numbers that sound optimistic too... 79.4% of people that read my posts agree with me. see? its easy. im not trying to attack you or anything with this, im just saying that i dont really believe these are factual statistics you are referencing and that i dont agree with some of what you said. i DO believe that the blood alcohol limit should be a little higher, but they arent gonna change that. i can probably blow a high number on a breathalizer and not be anywhere near as drunk and incoherent as someone that blew a lower number and that is a smaller person. all in all... if you dont want to get a ticket or go to jail dont get obliterated before you drive. a lot of the times with any situation you find yourself in with a cop that pulled you over, they know before hand whether or not they are gonna ticket you/take you in and if they dont have that determined, dont give them a reason to. its about half and half your judgement and the cop's incentive.
