Im just sorta curious. I used to use Norton but it fucking sucked so i stopped even though i still had 6 months left on my liscense. Then i started using AVG for a while cause it was free. Then it stopped being free so i started using Avast. But i heard some bad things about Avast. Right now i'm trying out Webroot Spysweeper. It's what we use at Staples where I work to get rid of viruses but i'm still not sure about it.

I'm using the trial version right now but so far it works ok. It's only 40 bucks versus 80 or 100 for Norton or Macafee so I might just buy the full version.

Anyone else use something different that works pretty good.

I really want something that isnt gonna turn my computer into a fucking snail.

I've thoroughly tested AVG (the free one) on a number of infected computers and compared it to other virus scans and have found it to be the most useless virus scanning utility on the planet.

They're all pretty useless, but some are less useless than others.

It also depends on which version of the SW you are using.

Norton Internet Security 2007 takes up less CPU resources than 2006 did.

McAffee Internet Security will always take up more CPU resources than Norton.

CA is even worse and protects less.

I've found that Norton Internet Security 2007 with Webroot Spysweeper to do the trick.

As for the free stuff, you get what you pay for. I'm sure it's better than nothing, but when you are running windows for an OS, you have a bull's eye on your system every time you go on to the internet.

As for spybot, that doesn't prevent any new spyware from getting onto your system, and it likes to remove windows system files thinking that they are spyware.

Just my 2 cents.

If your settings are correct, your windows system files won't be touched.

it it does prevent new spyware, haven't you seen the immunize feature?

I've seen spybot remove system files that windows XP needs for future updates.

Very familiary with the Immunize button. Spyware that spybot can't catch will continue to reside on the system. Other spyware programs that you pay for are much better at detection and removal.

I just think there is better spyware protection and removal out there than that.

Like I said, just my $0.02
