Studs, especially with standard labret piercings, are prone to cause way more damage. A vertical labret is said to cause the least damage because it hardly touches your teeth unless you bite on it. This is probably what I'm gonna go for eventually because I'd rather not go through bullshit erosion again. If you haven't already, you might also want to try bmezine.com. Theres usually plenty of helpful articles on each kind of piercing there. |

I did have it pierced three times, but the labret piercing caused minor gum erosion. Supposedly, if you take it out soon enough, you may be able to regenerate from any damage. It's fine now, and not really noticable. Basically, I just diluted listerine with water, and rinsed my mouth out after every meal, and cigarette for the first week or two. The most annoying thing were the crusty things that form around the ring while the wounds are healing. Rinse your mouth often so they don't build up. It can be slightly painful if you move the ring, and they go into the wound. My lip also swelled up at first, but eventually went down. Other than that, there were no significant infections. Did your piercer give you aftercare instructions? Rince your mouth everytime you eat/smoke (try not to smoke if you do), alcohol free mouthwash, and sea salt soaks (1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 8oz warm water). Soaking your lip might be tough, you can do a hot compress with paper towels, cotton balls, etc. if you want. I don't know how neccessary the mouthwash is as I've never used it to clean my mouth, but I guess it's recommended. |
