So... i just got my student loan check and ordered my Mesa Quad preamp... on to my next order of business...

A NEW COMPUTER

My shitty old pc died last year and I've been abusing my girlfriend's MAC iBook G4 (which I really like), but now that I'm a fortunaire, I need something to call my own.

My main concern is video editing. And I'll probably want something simple to record guitar tracks. And then there's Photoshop. And stealing music. And movies. Don't forget the porn.

Should I go the Mac or PC route? Where should I procure it?
(I hear good things about newegg.com, but I like the idea of a "performance guarantee" type thing that will unfuck me when I fuck it all up... hey, I admit my computer stupidity... and I don't want to diminish my vast fortune with a single purchase, now)

Suggestions, please...

yeah if youre already using a mac then stick with it. new macbooks are $$$$$$$$$ though. the newegg warranty thing is good and worth it. it got me a brand new laptop when mine suddenly wouldn't turn on about 4 months after i bought it. no questions asked.

Since you're going to be video editing, final cut pro on a mac is about as good as it gets.

and since you're going to be steeling music/videos and looking at porn, a mac would be better defended against most malware.

Photoshop hardly makes a difference if it's on a mac or pc (despite whateveryone seems to think, they do the same exact shit) and recording simple guitar tracks won't make a difference between the two either.

thanks guys. should i just go to the mac store at the mall (i think i get a 10% student discount?)

or is there a place i can find a better deal and still get some sort of performance guarantee?

you will get a better deal buying a dell with a warranty. Macs are NOTHING now cause they use the same exact hardware as a PC. get a Deal and you will get more for your $$ than a Mac. The only thing that Macs have is freeBSD running under it.
but with a PC you can either dual boot linux or just put the $$ you save into RAM and run VMware sessions.

I just got a dell 2GHz core 2 duo laptop, 2GB RAM, and a 100GB hard drive and the thing is ridiculous. it was probably $1200. the core 2 duo MACS are 2x the price.
