horus heresy, the: they only played maybe 2-3 songs and then the guitar head died. You could tell it was on its way out through the whole set as it got more and more quiet. Finally, you could barely hear it. Then they got a new head and... They said they were done. For some reason, now that you could finally hear the guitar, he didn't want to play anymore... Weird. They were black/death metal. I think that they are still battling out conflicting styles within the band. The songs that they did play, they didn't seem to know very well and messed up a bunch. I'm sure they will get better with practice.

cythraul: they took a wicked long time to set up. The drummer's been talking about them to me for yeeeears... Finally, they play a show that I can go to and they even had a roadie, seth hekseri. For some reason I thought that they were a white metal band, but it was black metal. Sort of like good-enslaved or emperor. the vocals had that squeek at the end of breaths that earlier black metal vocals had. All the guys/girl head banged for the entire set. It was pretty damn good. cody got on stage and did a song with them.

hirudinea: even though there weren't many people here, I was slammed against the wall quite a few times. They played all their hits and 2 covers. I saw josh in the back pumping his crutch in the air for sex&violence. On the track "this I commant", jay and mike trade vocals from what they usually do. I think that's what I noticed last show.

Definatly our sloppiest set, not enough room for fan hair, nor enough practice with the new drummer. Fun show either way. Horse Heresy was pretty cool, and i really like cythraul. Ive already seen Hirudinea a bunch, itd be nice if more people stayed for us, but whatever its a week night.

this show ruled although its still a bummer Hekseri couldn't play. I'm glad I made it out to this though, Hirudinea killed as usual, and it was great to see coffin birth AND cythraul both for the first time. I hope it will be the first of MANY times I get to see them live

Cythraul reminded me alot of Judas Iscariot. They are definitely more on the black metal end of the black/death spectrum. Coffin Birth blend melodic, proficient lead playing with black/death nastiness. Hirudinea are Hirudinea with their violent, dissonant grindy blackened thrashiness (that is of course reminiscent of old school hardcore.) So, to reiterate, this was a splendid fuckin lineup
(sorry I didn't draw too many conclusions from the openers Horus Heresy, they played a really short set.)
