_______________________________ [Aug 1,2006 3:12pm - xmikex ""] I really hate hearing the argument that without Bad Brains there'd be no Blink 182, without Black Flag there'd be no Nickelback. The mega popular bands that early hardcore supposedly spawned are all junk and are the complete antithesis of a lot of these bands. I've never actually asked the guy but I don't see how a guy like John Joseph (who never saw a cent from any of the Cro Mags record sales) could really be proud that something he was involved in helped to spawn the Family Values tour 20 years later. |

If Henry Rollins heard that sentence, he would hang himself. Anyone would rather die than take responsibility for Nickelback. |

_______________________________________ [Aug 1,2006 4:49pm - Chainsawbrains ""] this is actually a book written by steve blush, i picked it up a couple of monthes ago...sooooo much fucking information, parts were boring, but either way I recommend anybody into this shit picks it up, titles the same; american hardcore... check it if you liked choosing death or lords of chaos |
________________________________________________ [Aug 1,2006 4:54pm - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] Dude I dunnow what's wrong with some people. This movie looks awesome. Everything I've ever read about that era of music and the bits I saw fizzle away as I got into it in my teens makes me realize the potential this documentary has. I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be living under the blanket of such an intense youth movement and learning to navigate its uncharted waters. The world is ready for something like this again in a few years, but I question what form it will take on. All the remnants of that early hardcore / radical youth movement are so incredibly far from what it originally was that it's rather satirical -- it parodies itself. |

________________________________________________ [Aug 1,2006 5:06pm - the_taste_of_cigarettes ""] dude anything about Black Flag or Bad Brains is awesome. I don't even like Black Flag like a ton but reading the stories about what happened to them in books and from Rollins account blows my mind. I mean, you need only watch one or two Bad Brains performances or that Minor Threat VHS and you see how fuckin insane it was. Hardcore shows now are pretty sad comparitively. |
