ShadowSD said:
DrinkHardThrashHard said:
Kevin Smith is a fucking sellout.
Why, because of the casting in Jersey Girl? That's about the only reason I can think of... Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma were all great, Mallrats was pretty good, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was a silly campy movie - but was intended to be that, so it worked on that level - and making intentionally campy movies is not really commercial anyway.
I wasn't exactly serious about the $ellout comment, but I guess I didn't make that obvious. However, there is a huge difference between Clerks and his later films. Clerks was a refreshing, slice-of-life film that was great because of its dialogue, situation, and characters. Dreck like Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob are just a string of parodies that drove the characters into the ground. I did not enjoy them. Mallrats was alright.
