Years ago in my old house, I had a recurring dream. Damn I must of had this dream somewhere between 30 and 100 times (hazy memory) between the ages of 6 and 10. It took place in my house, the one I was living in at the time I mean, and I know it was actually a recurring dream because there were subtle differences every time. Basically the dream would start and I'd be upstairs in my house at night. Do you know when you are dreaming and you know you have to do something? Well, in this dream, I had to run downstairs into the basement, run into the next room, flip the lightswitch on with my foot, and then run upstairs. But as soon as I get to the bottom of the stairs, this strange shadow monster on the other side of the basement would slowly start making his way towards me to catch me, so I'd have to do all this and run back upstairs before I was caught. I usually got caught and the dream would end with me being pulled back into the dark basement. But it was funny, the shadow monster would sometimes be dark like a real shadow, but sometimes he would be a color. Sometimes in the dream I was moving real speed, and sometimes I could only move really really slow, like it feels like I'm in slow motion (this still happens to me in lots of nightmares). When he would catch me I'd try and punch him but my arms would move soooo slow, it wouldn't cause any damage. Then I would try to scream and I couldn't raise my voice above a whisper. Another variable in the dream is that sometimes he would be waiting for me at the top of the stairs. I would think that I escaped but he would be right there, and he'd grab me and bring me back down the stairs and the dream would end.
