| ______________________________________________ [Mar 29,2006 10:04am - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] From what I've gathered over the past decade or so when the term 'dark metal' first came into circulation (with the band Bethlehem and their album 'Dark Metal' as an example), it often sounds like black metal but has more gothic influence, or simply a slightly altered sound based in black metal roots. Occasionally, they sound the same. Bethlehem at the time were doomier than most black metal, so that was their difference. Of course now they are an ambient band. |

I will say that in the early days, Venom were definitely a 'live' band, that is they came off better on stage than the recordings on their records, but I've developed a fondness for the lo-fi stuff anyways. |
