___________________________________ [Aug 7,2005 11:41pm - Dissector ""] how much would all this stuff cost? |
______________________________ [Aug 7,2005 11:42pm - blue ""] well, depends on what you need for mics. cables are free. |

I need money so I might end up selling my drum mics and mixing board. If you do let me know. We need to rent a couple drum mics and overheads. And a good mic to record guitar. I have an SM57 but I don't know if there's something better. We were going to go into a studio to record but it fell through so it looks like we have to stick with home recording but we want to do it right this time. |

I'm assuming this is for guitar? it all depends on what sound you're trying to get. often times i use an sm 57 and a c414 together. I've been known to use a U-87 or U-47 as well. An sm 57 with a md421 sounds good or a 57 with a amt25. just mix the two mics to taste. becareful of phasing. |
___________________________________ [Aug 8,2005 12:41pm - Dissector ""] I was thinking of maybe mic'ing the guitar amp (with any recomended mic) and running it direct out of the head as well. I'll try it that way and mic'ing it twice. I want the best and heaviest guitar tone I can get. |
_______________________________________ [Aug 8,2005 12:44pm - niccolai nli ""] direct out recording works with bass amps, but for guitar amps it's weak as hell. |
___________________________________ [Aug 8,2005 12:55pm - Dissector ""] The line 6 head my friend has said it's made for direct recording so I figured I'd try combining it and giving it a shot. I remember I tried it before with another head and it lacked a lot of depth. |
________________________________________ [Aug 8,2005 3:42pm - attendmyrequiem ""] yeah direct in for guitar...booo. combining a miked track and direct in track always caused phasing problems with me. i always dumped the direct in track. |
______________________________ [Aug 9,2005 12:50am - blue ""] yes, guitar direct blows. use a beta 57 for guitars. |
_______________________________________ [Aug 9,2005 12:57am - DeOdiumMortis ""] I love my beta 57. Supercardioids are such a great idea. I want to try pairing it with a Sennheiser 609, not the stupid cheap "silver" version but a real 609. |
_____________________________ [Aug 9,2005 1:04am - blue ""] go with some electro voices as well. for vocals, the ND769 rules big time. it was made for high volume (metal) situations. |
________________________________________ [Aug 9,2005 1:11am - attendmyrequiem ""] beta 57 is brutal on a snare! |
______________________________________ [Aug 9,2005 1:29am - DeOdiumMortis ""] My plan is to never buy a SM57. Evert time I need one, I'll get another beta 57. I even had to use a pair of them as overheads once and I was pleasantly surprised. |
