I gotta agree with Dreadkill, although I didn't like Damnation at all, I actually enjoyed the softer elements on this record, at times they remind me of some of Faith No More's soft stuff, or of course Dan Swano's 'Moontower'. I'm not too fond of the heavier tracks, and 'Baying of the Hounds' is my fave too.

I'm still going to say my favorite on it is Ghost of Perdition. That track slays.

I think the worst track is Grand Conjuration, which looks to be the first single off the album. I heard that song a few weeks ago and lost hope of another blistering Opeth album.

But I'm happy to say the new album slays. Opeth is still my favorite band. They just need to come back and headline in the States

you open the torrent file, it will download the album from that.

after listening to it again, I'm REALLY digging the way they've evolved with this album...the possiblities for future works are endless

watch out for metalcore/opeth-ripoff hybrid bands, coming to a hot topic near you.

it will happen. i still love opeth though, killer record as usual. blows deliverance away, making deliverance the worst opeth album, in my opinion, but still a solid album.

i think that is bullshit. why cant people just wait for the cd to come out? fans should have way more respect for a band, especially one like Opeth.

i'd be pretty pissed if our cd was coming out, and was all done and ready to be released, and people started downloading it and taking it before its release. i dont know, i just think its weak.

ummm real fans REALLY want to hear it ASAP...and they will also buy it when it comes out..you buy an actual CD you get goodies that come with it

i understand where you are coming from, but succubus said it best. real fans will buy the album. they just can't help downloading it when they know other people have it. one of my friends only wanted to hear a couple tracks because he feels like getting the whole album beforehand takes away from the excitement of getting the album in your hands with the artwork and listening to it for the first time. i understand that feeling as well. being a graphic designer myself and big fan of travis smith's work, i'll probably be just as excited to see all the artwork even though i have heard the music beforehand. if opeth wasn't my favorite band (tied with katatonia), maybe the excitement level would go down, but i bet it won't.

The more I listen, the less I like any other songs besides 'Atonement' and 'Baying of the Hounds'.

I can understand both sides of the download/morality issue, but I think hard media (CDs, etc) is about to go the route of extinction, and kudos to that, the packaging is completely fucking wasteful to our environment and simply takes up space. Most people I know with CDs or large CD collections seem to still prefer their iPods, and direct digital media would cut out a lot of the parasites from the industry. So I'm all for it.

I love my CDs too...with cover art and packaging, but let's face it, it's almost over.

Just think, Opeth might make a dime off each CD that is sold, but what if we could just buy their albums directly from them online, via media download? You could pay the bands $6 for their CD and they'd make a hell of a lot more than they do now, since the leeches would be plucked from their skin.

i love those great fuckin ideas that totally work until you add in the variable of greed

oh. i guess. i personally like the idea of waiting for it to be in my hands before i hear it. most people i know download stuff beforehand, i dont. you hear alot about bands getting upset over shit like that, but i suppose if its made available. i shouldnt really say anything, after all some of our songs are available for download. its just my opinion. also, for those of you who have our songs, we are RE-re recording our cd, so that is just a miniscule representation of us. i suppose i would better understand if i actually had a computer over the past 5 years, but i am economically and technologically isolated, except here at work.

Oh, that is true, and I can only really speak for myself in saying that I would gladly buy a lot more records directly from bands if they were reasonable.

However, the kids are taking almost ALL the candy now, for free...and there won't be any stopping them, especially when most records still cost above $10. The record industry is on a downward spiral, and nex-gen file sharing (with blind IP trackers and other means to protect the private user) will most likely seal its doom entirely.

good point, personally i dont mind shelling out 10-15 bucks for a cd of a band that i like. Of course i know all the money doesnt go to them directly, but they do receive a piece of it and that makes it worth while knowing that im not preventing them from making some, if any, money from a record. in the end, i guess people just generally dont give a shit how they get music. I mean if you can save 15 bucks and sit at home at your computer instead of going out and buying a cd, well then most lazy ass kids are probably going to continue to do that

[Jul 27,2005 1:30pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""]
Especially when that $15 could go towards so many other things to appease their self-indulgence and vanity...we all know how important that is.

I don't mind shelling out money for a CD either, but I'm just saying I'd rather spend half the money and get it online, and not have to deal with a clutter with all these CDs I have. As personal living space decreases as per population increase, the transfer of 'hard' media to soft data will become even more important.

Listen to myself. I'm like a mini-infoterror. Someone kill me.
