That is awesome. Yes Star Wars is truth. It obviously happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Tell the Emperor that it needs more Cowbell |

_________________________________ [Jan 27,2010 8:51am - reimroc ""] a common misconception is that star wars takes place in the future. you look at the beginning on every movie it states "a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...". its a fairy tale. its every greatest story ever told all in one. |

That's the million dollar question. of course it all depends on what one considers a science fiction trait. most Trekkies I know think star wars is fantasy.. Could the Trekkies be right? |

___________________________________ [Jul 26,2010 3:41pm - arktouros ""] Space opera is adventure science fiction set in outer space or on distant planets, where the emphasis is on action rather than either science or characterization. The conflict is heroic, and typically on a large scale. Space opera is sometimes used pejoratively, to describe improbable plots, absurd science, and cardboard characters. But it is also used nostalgically, and modern space opera may be an attempt to recapture the sense of wonder of the golden age of science fiction. The pioneer of this subgenre is generally recognized to be Edward E. (Doc) Smith, with his Skylark and Lensman series. Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space series, Peter F. Hamilton The Dreaming Void, The Night's Dawn and Pandora's Star series, and the immensely popular Star Wars trilogies are newer examples of this genre. -wikipedia |

_________________________________ [Jul 26,2010 5:09pm - reimroc ""] although it is technically sci-fi lucas borrowed so much from so many other genres its ridiculous. you can see spaghetti westerns, 40s-60s japanese samurai films, old sci-fi serials from the 30s and 40s, religious undertones and fairy tales all put together into one brilliant film series. it really is the "greatest story ever told" all put together in 6 films. |

After recently rewatching them and studying them to see if there was anything I've ever missed, there is one that stands out the most and is perhaps the biggest flaw in all of Star Wars: Han Solo's hair. You see, when he was frozen in carbonite with the tibanna gas at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, all is good. In Return of the Jedi, when he is unfrozen, his hair is different. Who the fuck gave him a hair cut when he was frozen in carbonite? This makes it unrealistic. I can never view the original trilogy the same. |

I was able to kid myself into believing I liked Phantom Menace because it was within the high of any new Star Wars movie existing at all. I slowly let go of that contrived aura over the next couple years and a few more viewings of the movie at home. Seeing that first trailer for Attack and coming to the realization that they had actually decided to give the movie that name was the moment where I consciously had to face that this new trilogy just wasn't bringing it. |
