I've read the singer talking about how he enjoys thrash and oldschool hardcore among other things. I meant no insult to the band, 'metalcore' is not such a dirty word for me. If they want to saw me up for voting for them, then do so with my blessings. To my ears, Hekseri is crossover black/death metal, with some clear Morbid Angel influence. I wanted to put CNV for black metal so I put Hekseri for death metal. If I'm not mistaken it even says this on their website: "Our unholy alliance formed in March 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts. Since that time we have been writing and recording a torture session's worth of sickening, merciless, and unholy black/death/battle metal anthems." There it is. This poster didn't ask for best unholy black/death/battle metal band, so I signed them for death metal. Whoop dee doo. At least I actually voted instead of just trolling! |

But Lucifucked is correct that the term 'metalcore' has existed for some time now, but was really only popularized with this new wave of bands in the past few years. I heard many people refer to Agnostic Front and DRI as that back in the day, and I was there. I even remember in highschool someone referring to my first ever band as 'metalcore'. That was 1990-91. But, by all means, flame on! |

Please don't take any of this as an asskissing, I'm just being honest. Also, if a band is not here it doesn't mean I don't like them, just that they haven't impacted me the most for that genre. And everyone thinks differently. Best death metal: Porphyria Best black metal: December Wolves (many runners up, though) Best speed/thrash: Extinction Agenda Best power/heavy metal (do we even have one?): who cares? Best metalcore: who cares? okay, Converge Best Swedish clone: who cares this is not Sweden. Best math metal: The Red Chord is the best, but I still don't like them. Best experimental: Cryostasium Best industrial metal: I don't know of any except Ghidorah. Best grind: Watchmaker (this is where they fit the best, fuck you all) Best goth metal: Spelunkr (if it could be considered this, sorry Scott) Best drone/doom: Ocean and Conifer are both very good. I hate Isis. Best stoner rock: Black Sabbath, we don't need any of the copies. Roadsaw was okay though. Only a few of these bands are active 'live' bands, so this is based on music alone. |
