kalopsia...for a bass you prolly have individual saddles, u can just raise the action on that one string to get rid of buzz, but the action suffers..
a happy medium is what to look for, if its the only feesable solution.

capo the first fret and check the height on the 12th wire. You shouldn't have it lower than 4/64ths and there shouldn't be any buzzing that low, the truss rodd wouldn't effect that assuming the string and bridgeheight are correct, the only thing that would give you buzzing that I can think of is an improper fret dressing, or you pressure the strings to much or not enough given the specific height.

incase the intonation is incorect, than take a tape measerer and measer from the end of the nut at the head to the 12th fret wire and double it to get your scale length, than measer from the nut to the saddle on your low e string, it should be the same distance as the scale length, no closer or further from the bridge. than the A string would haveto be moved back acording to it's guage, assuming it's .11 than it should be .11 behind the e string saddle. So the same thing with the D string, moving it back it's guage from the A strings saddle. than the D string should be paralell with the A and use the same method on B and E by moving them back acording to thier guage. to adjust the truss rod, tune the guitar as close as possable, capo the first fret, and hold down the 6th string on the last fret (the low E) and check the height at the 8th fret, it should be .10 or 11. if it's not, you need to tighten or loosen the trussrod with the capo on until the 8 string height matches .10 or .11.

once setup properly you should be able to go as low as 4/64ths. If not, it may be a fret problem.

first check all possable minor problems, sharp or coroding bridge saddles, flattened or choking strings, string heights, frets that are starting to leave the wood, jagged frets, and anything you can think of.

I'm betting (assuming everythings setup as far as intonation and truss rod goes) that it's the frets and they should be dressed and worst case scenario replaced.

If you know how to redress frets than do it, if not, don't risk it.
here are the steps involved:
1. using a rubber hammer, hit the frets down into the board not enough to damage, but enough to let them know they are the enemy.
2. take a black sharpy marker and make a line down the fret wiring
3. take fine grade sand paper (above wet sanding though) on a flat board with a handle, and sand the frets lightly until the marker is gone. it should smoothe things up.

If you aren't firmilliar with fret dresses, I wouldn't risk it.

if you redress the freets and it's still buzzing, thats when you say fuck because it was the setup all along and you redressed the frets for nothing and something else is wrong. if it buzzes after that, than you may need a neck or nut shim, the brand of strings you use may clash with the guitar, or you did something to anger god.

if non of that works, just take it to a tech and risk the 15$ setup and make sure you tell him how you tune and the guages and strings you use.

That vital remains guitar fucking rules. Neal Moser/Yavcon guitars are awesome.

Kalopsia, if you're talking about a Euro spector (or any other mass produced instrument); then the bass may just have buzzing issues in general. It takes a super straight neck, fine craftsmanship and flawless fretwork to create a bass that doesn't buzz at all when you hit hard, especially with the instrument's action set low. I've only played boutique basses (i.e. sukop, fodera, mtd, modulus and others) that have not buzzed at all with very low action. That's not to say the Euro Spector's not a great bass. I love those things, especially the four-strings.

Adjusting the truss rod (and thus raising the action) will certainly improve and may fix the problem entirely. You could also try attacking the notes with a lighter touch because the harder you hit the buzzier the note gets. You're probably using emgs which are very sensitive and also put out alot (do you have a 9v or 18v preamp?), so playing with a lighter touch may be a very feasible idea for you.

A final idea would be taking your bass to a shop and getting it set up professionally. It may need fretwork (especially if it's buzzing only in specific places), or the repairman could adjust your truss rod, bridge and nut (if it's adjustable on your bass) so that all the strings are the ideal distance from the fretboard.

I do setups and redresses for small cash, usually under 15$.. more if I don't like the person. The reason some setups get so high is because they including making a new nut, resoldering all of the wiring, ect.

guitar doctor and whitman does it for 20-25$ up to 35-40 if your guitar is awful and needs a shim or fill.

Anthony is right, with such massive necks, a small amount of rattling is almost a given , the only real alternative is a high end bass, or a fretless conversion. adjusting the truss and intonation will help buzzing, correcting your finger pressure will help buzzing, and lighter attack with your right (picking) hand will reduce buzzing.to get it perfect you'll need a kickass setup and pretty thin strings.

I doubt the pickups have much to do with it though, buzzing usually doesn't come through onto the amp. I'm betting the preamp is nine volts, the only 18v EMG compatable preamp I know of hasn't sold to anyone and isn't really popular.

I'd haveto say, it's strictly luthery quality thats effecting it.

Also, check the nut, sometimes the string will dig into the nut and will get to low to the frets.

My fathers a master luthier so when I lived with him I picked alot up.
alot of it sounds more complicated than it is. I'd haveto say the hardest things for me to learn as far as building was soldering and mastering the dremmel.
my soldering always sucked, and it's god damn hard to keep controll of a dremmel for routing out pickup cavities.

I think an upgrade is common in euro spectors to have an 18v aguilar preamp. I know all those basses have emgs as well.

I'm not 100% on this, but it's what seems right to my memory.

niccolai said:The cross guitar was built by a man by the name of Ken Patin, builder of MCS/Yavcon guitars. The same company responsable for the design of the bcrich warlock, bich, scythe, active guitar pickup circut and countless other things.
He's helping me build and figre maple for my guitars. Those lights inside are LEDs and were the most grueling thing I can think of. That 'dumbest guitar ever' is made by probably one of the best and most innovative luthiers in existance and the woods were hand selected and without question the best I've played.

I don't doubt his ability one bit. Anyone who builds custom guitars gets all the respect in the world from me. He should just hire an architect when he designs body shapes. I'd love to have him or any other good custom builder make me a completely original guitar, but I wouldn't want it to look like a big plastic toy either.

We can't all like everything, otherwise there would only be one thing.
And I much prefer Sanders' overly pointy design to the VR LightBright™.

There's a difference between a pro death metal band and some garage death metal band. Pro's have their shit together, most don't...That's not to say local death metal bands aren't good. There needs to be some level of seriousness in any type of music you apply yourself too. Not everyone has their music based around stupid song titles.

I didn't know Nun Slaughter and Repulsion were just garage bands.
I also don't think their song titles are stupid. (btw, bringing up "stupid songtitles" when defending Nile is not a good choice of arguement, balding hicks from a S.C trailer park trying to pass for ancient egyptians is pretty fucking stupid)

I didn't say NS or Repulsion were garage bands (notice I took them out of the quote)...If you can't see the talent and the amount of work Nile put's into their songwriting you suck at life.

What's wrong with having interest in Middle Eastern culture? I find that shit fascinating myself. The stories/myths are pretty brutal and are perfect grounds for songwriting.

one thing I never understood about the internet, is how anyone could possibly cry so much about something they have the option of ignoring.

I never said anything about Nile's music. I don't mind them.
Every time I've been around that band though, Blondie comes off like he thinks they're total rock stars. That attitude is what I was talking about. Unless you actually go out and kill people, taking yourself seriously when playing death metal is pretty gay.

I dunno, I wasn't on the nile guest list for one of their gigs a while back and he gladly came down from backstage and hooked me up after talking metal with me.

Just because you think they have a rock star attitude maybe they do? maybe they are tired? or maybe they just don't like you? hahah.

They don't know me. They tour a lot with bands I do know though. I just know what I see and hear backstage.

I'm sure he was more than happy to hook you up after the complete ass-kissing you gave him though. Making him feel like a rock star must've given both of you erections.
