For a band that's been around for so long and written some awesome shit in the past (mainly And Justice For All, in my opinion), this is the Lord of the Rings fail (the most epic of fails). I think I was busting out similar tapping solos when I was 15 years old. What the fuck. Even though I haven't enjoyed Metallica in years, I could never deny that Kirk Hammett was a great lead player, but now it's pretty easy to say that he's lost it. I can hear direct references structurally to some of their older material (Fade To Black and One, to name just a couple), but with nothing new. It is obvious that they either can't write differently or purposely copied their own music. To make this song as long as it is should be considered capital punishment. Boo-urns. |

Something they did quite a bit in on the last one. I don't have any delusions of great Metallica again, so I suppose this is way better than the last 3 records. At least they are doing solos and rocking a bit harder. |
