_____________________________________________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 10:30am - ryanfromhbbsi still isnt fucking logged in ""] so basically you can have and smoke it, but you your dealer is in the wrong for selling it to you and you're in the wrong for growing it. "By approving the I-100, the use of marijuana in public, the use of marijuana by people under 21, driving under the influence of marijuana, and the cultivation and distribution of marijuana would all remain illegal, much like with alcohol. " |

_________________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 11:06am - dreadedsilence ""] so you can possess it, but you can't buy it, sell it, grow it, etc.? maybe this wasn't thought through well enough. i don't know the exact specifics of the ordinance but it seems like that is what it says. what the feds or the state should do is take a cue from this and start making some regulations a little more like the alcohol laws. they probably won't though. what this is, though, is a baby step foward. maybe this will spark something |
__________________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 11:09am - davefromthegrave ""] actually no, under state law, which overthrows city law, you can't possess it either. |
_________________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 12:25pm - dreadedsilence ""] davefromthegrave said:actually no, under state law, which overthrows city law, you can't possess it either. right. it's still illegal under state and federal laws. what this was was just the city's attempt to show the public's view on the issue in hopes that the state and/or the feds take it into consideration. even if the state changes the laws, federal law still prohibits it and the state law will be ineffective. |

But if it's a real concern to you I'll make sure that the next time I have friends over who plan on smoking I will krazy glue their asses to my couch and throw away every sharp object before they shoe up. |
___________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 9:54pm - anonymous ""] anonymous said:kriswithak's got the idea lock all of the stoners in denver then the world will be a better place uh, first of all, if you were paying attention at all to earlier posts, you'd know that it is technically NOT legal in denver due to state laws. it basically makes possession of small amounts the lowest priority of enforcement and also create interest in what the public has to say. but denver is not the first city to do it. if you read the article, various cities like Seattle and Oakland have already made possession the lowest enforcement priority. |
________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 11:34pm - retzam ""] I'm pretty sure that state law overrides federal law in the case of marijuana legalization (as it does for many laws, as written in the constitution). In theory, if Colorado for example should as a state legalize marijuana, it would be legal except if a federal agent caught you, rather than a state or city cop. I'm not 100% sure about this by any means, but it's a thought. |
__________________________________________ [Nov 2,2005 11:55pm - xxxproctologist ""] its been legal in california for some time now.... |
____________________________________ [Nov 3,2005 10:28am - anonymous ""] 99% of the pot smokers I've known are lazy, don't listen, and don't give a shit about anything. Totally unproductive. And, yes, I have also seen some pretty violent pot smokers in my life. That arguement is the stupidest one I've ever heard. I've known some pretty brilliant people with a ton of potential that basically got addicted to pot and it ruined their lives. They quit school, got low-paying part-time jobs and basically lived off of mac-and-cheese, beer, and weed. Sad shit. I do, however, see the argument made for medicinal use. I could probably get behind something like that. If a person is dying and in a lot of pain, and weed would help them feel better in those last stages of their lives I could see supporting something of that nature. But to make it legal for everyone? No way. Stupid idea. It's beetter to have it kept out of sight. Do I want my daughter asking me what those funny little cigarettes are while we're walking down the street? Hell no. The decline of Western civilization, indeed. |
