there comes a time in the life of a metal fan when he/she just doesn't feel like listening to something extreme ALL the time. sometimes you just need a break from all the screaming and listen to something mellow. just because it isn't heavy/aggressive doesn't mean it isn't good.

Yes, you dont have to listen to just straight Black/Death/Thrash all the time. Thats why there is Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and so on. Also new ulver rules, as does norways When.

Yet I HAVE listened to those bands for decades, and also listened to metal since 1979....so it is possible.

I also know others metal fans of many years that listen to these same bands. Perhaps you should change the title of this thread to:

"Cool nonmetal bands that you listen to that I approve of."

Nah. Alice in Chains is definitely metal. LOA use to be metal then they progressed (most will say "sold out" but that is narrow minded) and leaned toward a hard rock stance. I suppose you could say AIC isn't metal. I'll just call them genious.

you have no taste in music for not liking the cure. it does make sense if you enjoy listening to sincere music. the cure is about as honest a band as you can get.

I listen to stuff that youd probably think is WAY 'gayer" than either of those bands!

Theres lots of good stuff that isnt Metal at all. Listening excusevly to Metal music doesnt make you some kind of elite metal head! Im not hating on people on only enjoy metal just the once egocentric enough to think that its because everything else just "sucks"!

Rancid
Patti Smith
James Brown

MAX wEBSTER
The Damned
Descendents
