pam said:I think it's disturbing that anyone is willing to just accept this and move on without looking into what could have been done better. If we look at what could have been done better...this will have a much smaller chance of happening again. If campus's take this horrible thing and use it to think about THEIR crisis plans...and improve on them, at least something came out of this.

But I'm a terrible person for thinking that.

I think that you're right that things could have happened faster, and there should have been a tighter emergency plan in place.

However, a college campus is a huge place, and even with the fastest communication in place the amount of time it would take to lock down and secure everyone there would have been hours. So they locked down the dorms? The kid with the guns heads to the classes. They locked down the classes? Try the cafeteria. The kid had murder in mind, and there's not too much that can stop someone like that in such a wide open place.

I think the more important question is: Why the fuck didn't anyone stop him? I can't for a moment imagine seeing someone systematically murder 30 people without feeling the need to at least TRY to subdue them.

Also, as far as I've seen on the news today, classes WERE in fact cancelled. Again, it takes time for word to spread for that sort of thing. I remember several times in high school that we would show up for class and sit there for a good 10-20 minutes before someone came by to let us know that an assembly had been called in the auditorium. Now that's for a school of 500 students. Multiply that by 26,000 students, and you can maybe understand why these kids and faculty were sitting there 2 hours after the first shooting.

More than both of those COMBINED!

Human compassion?! Why? The human race is the bringer of it's own demise. Born and bred to kill with no empathy. Open you eyes cupcake.

this argument gets dredged up every time some stupid tragedy happens,
look, if you feel genuine compassion for these victims, fine. However some people including myself truly and honestly could not give a shit less about some dumb kids we've never met. It has nothing to do with being "metal" or "cool" its simply that most of those kids were probably douchebags in life, so why the hell should i pretend like i respect them just because they were unlucky enough to get in the way of some jilted korean romeo???
theres six billion people on this planet and the numbers rising every day, anyone who genuinely feels compassion for every single one of them has either got a huge heart or very low standards of "compassion"

1- He was South Korean, not Chinese.

2- Classes were NOT canceled after the first shooting. Nearly 2 and a half hours passed between those first 2 murders and the rampage across campus. The rampage happened in a CLASSROOM. They had no trouble locking down the dorms and spreading the word AFTER the kid smoked 30 people in the 2nd building, they could have at least TRIED to get the word out and cancel classes until the killer was caught.

Is that a solid, foolproof solution that would have absolutely saved everyone? No. But word travels fast, and even if 3 or 4 of those dead kids heard and decided to stay in their dorm, it would have been worth the effort. Saying "welllll we have a big campus" isn't good enough for me, sorry. If you made an effort that didn't work because of the big campus, that'd be one thing. But they didn't even try. The students and parents have every right to question the police and school.

No one is shifting all their blame to the school, but to complacently accept this and not stop and say "OK, what could we have done better, and how will we be more prepared in the future" is fucking irresponsible. I'm not saying we should be stringing these cops up, or firing them, but fuck them to consider people out of line for asking questions.

However I'm not surprised people are OK with calling me a self important douche bag instead of trying to learn something from this tragedy because American citizen's are sleeping fucking idiots and they deserve what they fucking get.

I couldn't possibly agree with this more.

It's fucking retarded to watch all the schools scramble to make restrictions and safety precautions based on this shooting when they'll just be forgotten completely in a couple years and not remembered again until some piece of shit does the same thing five years down the line. The problem isn't the lack of safety checks in school, the problem goes much deeper than "Oh, this kid didn't get away in time, if the school had taken measures to prevent this while it was happening less people would be dead". Nobody would be dead if this kid who had actually gone on the shooting rampage in the first place had been taught to actually deal with his problems. But they never teach anybody that in school, they just teach a bunch of literature from dead guys nobody gives a fuck about, math so advanced you'll never use it in life, and a load of other tripe that's completely inapplicable to the real world, leaving kids to figure what really matters in life out for themselves getting told the douchebag guidance counselor's office door is always open but instead of getting an honest answer to your problems you get asked what you want to do after you get out of school and told you need to get your grades up by some stupid cunt who can't remember your name and couldn't give less of a shit about you or any of the other drooling retard students she has to put up with because she barely gets paid any money to babysit the entire fucking school through their greivances and personal crises that nobody knows how to fucking deal with because apparently physiology and trigonometry are more important than the ability to face life and a class like "independent living" is an elective that hardly anybody signs up for because kids think they've got it all figured out and their parents are going to give them money for the rest of their lives never realizing the fact that they're going to get kicked out eventually and find they're meaningless worthless pieces of shit on their own because the schools were too chickenshit to tell them.

Fuck everything.

So you think that instead of looking at the mistakes made yesterday and learning from them, that we should instead repair every child in the country's fucked up heads? Yeah, that's totally practical.

Bitching about how fucked up people are doesn't prevent tragedy. At least the people after The Station fire who decided to bust their asses tightening regulations and fire codes were fucking doing something instead of being armchair philosophers. I would rather my school maybe install an intercom system instead of just say "man, there's nothing we can do because everyone's kids are fucked up".

Sorry but you don't get to rightfully condemn people that TRY to prevent the worst case scenario after tragedies happen. Yeah, it always takes a tragedy to make people care...welcome to human history. All of your bitching isn't going to do anything. People are going to be fucked up. Get over it and do what you can to be prepared for fucked up things and stop persecuting people that make an honest fucking effort.

I'm not judging it based on who supposedly wrote it or because of what he did yesterday... really- that was just terrible writing! I'm curious if it actually was written by Cho at all or if this is just some hype to satisfy the public appetite for lunacy. People feel more comfortable when they can point the finger and say, "Oh, he was crazy all along. This explains everything..." thus turning these awful situations into an "us" & "them" issue. Hmmm... If we actually had the balls to do what is right, he would have been racially profiled and this would never have happened.

In all seriousness though, I cannot fathom the rational of blaming the police. If anyone is to blame (and that is second only to the douche bag who should have just offed himself first before killing 30+ people) it is the school administration. With 2 bodies in the dorms and no gun classes should have been canceled. Period. On 9/11 I was living at Fitchburg State and going to Mt. Wachusett Comm. College and not only were MWCC classes canceled, but my dorm was evacuated because it was a "high rise building" - like the rag heads were going to target Russel Towers next! I am beside myself as to why classes, which start at 8, were not canceled after a 7:15ish shooting leaving 2 dead in the dorms. Pretty fucked up to say the least.

Yeah, I don't think trying to enlighten anonydouche is going to get anywhere. These people who are usually too slow to understand initially are not going to grasp the situation as time passes, no matter how you deliver the truth.

And the truth is:

Okay we're in a post-Columbine scenario here, and you've found a dead woman and some dude lying in a pool of blood with bullets pumped into their corpse. Now if you me, you fuck the dead ex-girlfriend and steal all of her prescription medication for yourself. If you're a cop though, you generally need to prepare for the worst case scenario and think of the safety of others. It doesn't matter if they thought it was an isolated incident, and it doesn't matter if no one had any reason to believe it would escalate into a mass school shooting. Your job as a police officer is to assume the worst, control the situation, and stop what threat you can from happening to protect people from harm. These police officers failed. The school failed. The gunman pulled the trigger because he was upset over not getting a PS3 under the three this year. The cops allowed it to happen.

I definitely think the school should have been the ones to worry about canceling classes, getting the word out, etc., while the cops did their jobs. However, I also think that the cops should have had the sense to at least say, hey, this guy is MIA...he could possibly still be armed and angry...let lock this shit down and spread out. I mean, where was the logic in thinking "well, maybe the killer left...fuck it". They didn't even leave the fucking building.

Does that make sense? Why everyone is saying the cops dropped the ball as well as the school, I mean.

What's baffling me is that neither the cops nor the school officials thought a killer on the campus wasn't a good reason to cancel classes immediately and start spreading the word. They have a fucking campus-wide speaker system for announcing purposes, for fuck's sake!

the real issue here is GUN CONTROL. now everybody is screaming " something must be done to prevent this from happening again!" and we trade more liberty for "security". just wait, i am calling this right now watch within the next few months, everyone will be talking about making gun laws and bans more strict. the 2nd amendment will disappear. history is repeating itself again. the government can smell revolution. except this time we won't be able to do a fucking thing after we are disarmed.the 2nd amendment was written for a reason and for all of you who forgot what it is:

if everyone had guns, there would be a fuckload more shootings. especially in college where alcohol, depression, and testoserone are served everyday. suicides alone would skyrocket.
