___________________________________________________ [Jul 2,2004 12:02pm - attendmyrequiem @ school ""] Actually most venues are doing this they just aren't so fucking open about it. I mean, I remember days when I'd go to a show at the paladium and would see a local act for the first time and would be happy. Now the venues need a draw so they book the same bands over and over and 90% of the time less people go each time because they keep seeing the same bands, so the venue books new bands, but no one shows up for these because they are unable to get show because they don't have a draw. did that make sense? I know what i meant to say, but I'm not sure if everyone will understand. all in all... that really sucks is my main point. |

There's a couple of them right up here in little ol' Burlington, VT. It's pretty much a common theme, you talk shit about a venue, why would they book you knowing how you feel about them and what you're telling people. Makes sense to me. A lot of bands take being in a band and playing shows for granted. Other's highly value the experience and try to get as much as they can out of it. I guess this looks like Jarrod's way of weeding out some of these bands. I don't know for sure, I really know nothing about Jarrod's and am still wondering why it's looked upon the way it is. He's been really cool to me over the past few weeks and we're considering playing there but I want to know why you all hate the place so much. |

_______________________________ [Jul 2,2004 8:00pm - xmikex ""] Jarrods is a joke. Always has been. Always will be. If the "local scene" is "dying" then jarrods has been continually active in killing it over the last several years; booking awful shows, never promoting anything, hiring a bouncer staff that pulls stun guns on people, hits kids with flashlights, beats people for no reason, and fights people instead of breaking up fights. Has this Jarrod clown ever wondered why the Palladium is able to get such good shows with such consistantly good attendence with much much less problems? Does Jarrod wonder how Death Before Dishonor can play shows on a regular basis all around the country, yet the one time they came to Jarrods the entire Jarrods bouncer staff got beat the fuck up? The fact of the matter is that, MUCH LIKE THE TANK aka The H20 aka the Atlantic Lounge, its probably just a front for drug deals, and the actual shows mean nothing. I'm sure someone from the Jarrods staff will read this sooner or later. So just in case....Hey Jarrod. Fuck you. |

How about making it so there's no more entry once the show starts and no re-entry. I'm sure many of you will piss and moan at this but the fact is no one shows up untill their friend's band starts and they leave when they are done. This is how clubs are run in Florida and shows there are always packed. Unlike new england, people there have no choice but to be there early and stay late. ___________________________________ [Jul 5,2004 10:35am - SUBJUGATE ""] i think clubs relying only on the bands to do the promotion for the shows is gay but that in no way means the bands should just sit on their hands either the reason why palldium shows do so well is cause they take out ad's in the phenoix and have em placed where they will be seen not hidden in the back where no one looks the size of 2 business cards i think the bombshelter could do well if it took out ad's in the boston pheonix. |
_______________________________________ [Jul 5,2004 10:46am - Joe/NotCommon ""] i dont think the bomb shelter advertising in the phoenix would do much, unlike the Palladium, they aren't always booked with bigger tours. I think if a club has smaller underground and local shows booked, they should definately expect the promoter and bands to do most or all of the promotion. |

So keep blaming Jarrod's and the Bombshelter because YOU suck. That makes lots of sense. All I read here are a bunch of bitter cry babys whose bands suck. Get one thing straight - the scene in New England is DEAD and has been DEAD for longer than most of you have even been playing in your pathetic excuses for metal bands. I'm 36 and have been going to underground shows since 1983, the scene of the past decade has been a fucking joke. People arent going to come to your local shows because you suck. Get it? Try working really hard, creating quality speed and death metal and not carbon copy crap. Dont get me wrong there are a handful of decent local metal bands. I dont want to single any bands out one way or another though. Someone mentioned how people show up late or come early and then leave. He's right. Ive been to headlining shows where all the local bands pack up and go home to mommy and daddy before the national headliner even hits the stage. What kind of support is that? Billy Milano made some funny comments about this at The Living Room a few months ago. Bottom line is stop pointing fingers and blaming others for YOUR failures. To those of you who do really work hard and play intense metal, keep it up and dont let anyone bring you down. |
