______________________________________ [Jul 11,2006 9:00pm - the_reverend ""] MW' post saying they were playing second seems to be a rowes that worked. So many people show up early that when I got inside (5 minutes in to DR's set), I was soaked already. despotic robot: pretty much the same set as the o'briens show, including the closing cover of grim reaper. They were a little more subdued. Probably because of the heat inside that place. at the end, the singer's friends picked him up. |
______________________________________ [Jul 11,2006 9:01pm - the_reverend ""] 26 beers: best shirt of the night was patmeebles's spazz shirt. No one has topped that. Lots of energy during their set which led to dudes taking of their shirt. I'm pretty sure this is the start of the shirt-less gross-ness. All the kids that were moving around kept yelling for covers. I think the newest "in" thing for these shows should be those fishermen gloves. The ones with grips so when you go in the pit they are mandatory. It keeps you from loosing grip on the sweaty bodies of your friends as they hop on top of the crowd AND protects you from the people's sweat you don't know. |
______________________________________ [Jul 11,2006 9:03pm - the_reverend ""] rawradarwar: this band used to be septic youth command. I guess they got older and dropped the youth-ful name. I only saw SYC once, but I remember there being some 70's vocals. There are none in this pallindrome. They mix some punk, some hardcore, and almost power volence. It comes out sounding a bit like today is the day. I sort of expected them not to be many people inside. By the end of their set, there was like 1/3 of the people inside. which was a sizable number of people but no movement. not even during the 2-stepping parts. |
______________________________________ [Jul 11,2006 9:04pm - the_reverend ""] bloodstains: ok, I got confused at first cause this band had one of the unseen members in it. Also, the singer used to just sing. well, the guy from the unseen left and the singer picked up his geetar. This was the most punk band playing here. odd... Not many people were inside for them and there was only one time were people started dancing for them. I thought there would have been a lot more. |

_______________________________________ [Jul 12,2006 12:08am - the_reverend ""] annihilation time: is that the singer of get killed? Looked like him. But I guess it's not. They had a lot of people in to them so there were tons of people up front singing along. Blue keeps calling them primative trash. I thought they sounded really punk-hardcore. During their set was were the venue went from pretty hot to digusting. All those bodies moving with no ventilatiob was terrible. |

__________________________________ [Jul 12,2006 2:32pm - brian_dc ""] the 2-stepping is a common reaction to a specific drum part feel that is actually officially named "2-step"...heavy snare accents on 2's and 4's...you'd know if it you heard it. Honestly, the most obvious example in popular music is in the song "Two Step" by Dave Matthews Band |

But dude, RRW aren't sick nu-thrash man! They don't fit the "I'm 17 and have a denim vest with Sodom backpatches" mold, so it's no surprise that only a tiny portion of the crowd even watched 'em. Too bad those dudes are my peeps and were actually AT all of the original boston thrash shows back when you didn't have to buy those bands' backpatches at Hot Topic. Fucking sheople are lame. Nu-thrash is even lamer. Nostalgia without recognizing integrity is the lamest of all. RRW are fucking balls out better than most of the speed metal tribute acts that are all the rage these days. |

______________________________ [Jul 12,2006 7:27pm - Dar ""] How can you bitch about "nu-thrash"? I'm sorry not all of us had the opportunity to see the "original boston thrash shows." These days seeing a band like Municipal Waste is about as close as we can get to living the glory days...certainly they come closer than the "legendary" old bands, if you ask me seeing Slayer or Exodus these days is much more like "nostalgia without integrity." (This isn't saying anything about RRW, I am guilty of missing them because I had to eat something, maybe next time) |
______________________________________ [Jul 12,2006 8:57pm - the_reverend ""] I think the point is, do what I do, if you are at a show, see all the bands. you paid $10 for something, get your money's worth. Otherwise, you will miss great bands. plus, waiting out in a parking lot isn't very punk. heavey metal is the only music that is allowed to be in a parking lot. |

This is pretty much what I'm saying. Someday kids will be wearing RRW back patches and the people who actually watched them back when they were doing gigs will think it's silly too. |

(This isn't saying anything about RRW, I am guilty of missing them because I had to eat something, maybe next time) Why try to relive the glory days in the first place? What about creating new glory days? No harm meant man, you're taking what I said personally. I call it nu-thrash, well sorry, because it kinda is. I agree too, by the way, about the legendary bands that only have like 1 original member and haven't put anything new out in years. That's also trying to relive the past, cashing in on the new fans who order their reissue t-shirts and patches from a mail order catalogue. I was just frustrated because it could've been a full house for RRW, but because the kiddies outside hadn't heard a buzz about 'em nor did they realize that the band is made up of absolute Boston metal scene veterans who deserve tons of respect, they didn't bother to pay attention. Take my word for it; the RRW dudes all personally helped carve the mold for the scene here that those kids who were too occupied to listen are fully enjoying. |
______________________________ [Jul 13,2006 1:10am - Dar ""] I didn't say relive, I said live...it's the first time for us :P Anyway, we're both right. I didn't really mean to "argue" with you so much as present the perspective of the "17 year old kid with a sodom patch" (i'm not, but close enough) now due to your promotion, I know the RRW name and I'll try to hear 'em next time |
